2009 SS Brakes - lacking pressure or grip?
a8 dont listen to this guy. he has no idea what hes talking about. Ive owned 3 gm cars...all piles of **** when it came to quality.
american made cars are no where near the quality of foreign cars. never have been never will be.
go figure...the only problems with the toyotas and the accelerators were the ones MADE IN AMERICA.
i dont hate any cars...i love all cars. hell ive owned or driven a car from almost every company.
when it comes to quality its not even close.
educate yourself kid....its people like you that put america in the *******.
id love to see this kid standup in front of a crowd and say that GM makes a better quality vehicle than honda or toyota. Everyone would explode into an uncontrolable laughter.

You're one of those morons who pulls the door handle too hard like an ******* and breaks it intentionally, and then cries on the forum like a little bitch about the "poor quality"

What are you going to say, the Camry and Tundra are better?? Maybe the Ridgeline and Civic?? LMAO, you are an uneducated toolbag.
after reading your massive book you just wrote me...I think you just proved my point. stop kidding yourself man you dont know a single thing about cars. are you a hillbilly from the south? only a mindless idiot would be supporting everything made in america.
news flash...if GM made good quality they wouldnt have to be bailed out by the government. they make garbage vehicles and even when they are cheaper than the competition people still refuse to buy them because they are unreliable tin cans. does any of this stuff cross your tiny little mind ever? GM dug their own grave and now they are paying for it.
there is no way you have ever worked on a car in your life if you actually believe what you are saying. the proof is all around you. cars that cost more are outselling the cheaper alternative. common knowledge...you have none...now throw another tempertantrum and write me another fairytale sweetie.

So its obvious you know nothing about business or economics, either. Big surprise.

You can't call anyone out. I highly doubt you can even tie your own shoes, you're just too damn stupid and ignorant. When you leave your parent's basement, finish high school, and get a job, maybe then you'll have a clue.
Until then, shut the hell up and stop posting garbage.
I work in the industry, you are an internet troll know-nothing. You have no clue.
It has nothing to do with "quality", and everything to do with excessive overhead costs from labor, healthcare, pensions, benefits, and fierce competition from overseas manufacturers who pay their employees fractions of what GM used to pay and offer no benefits.

Sweetie?? You are a ****** internet troll, go the hell away fairy boy

yea because they would have all those problems if the cars were selling
edit: look at the original posters post one more time genious. look at the upgrades he has to his rotors and pads. it doesnt matter what parts are used if the system as a whole doesnt function right. Not trying to be mean man...but you sound like you have a slight retardation to your brain. Oh well your a supposed "mechanic", what was i thinking.

. I could school you on business all day long kid. I doubt you work in the industry. it doesnt matter if gm uses the best parts in the world on their cars...if they fail do to poor build quality then that means nothing(which happens way more often than not on GM). you dont seem to understand that...evolution definatley skipped you. you have the brain of a neanderthal.

You'd have trouble figuring out how to put tinker toys together, do the world a favor and NEVER touch your car again, all you're going to do is cause injury to others.
He should just do everyone a favor and get the hell out of this country if he hates everything so much.
And I thought guys were not suppossed to be so emotional ...
As you can see in my Sig, I've owned a few brand new GMs .. and besides the squeeky suspension problem .. nothing major ever happened on any of them
They are definitly not perfect cars ... but I've driven a few imports and let me tell you
THEY ARE NOT any better .. In fact, when I got my 1st Saturn, I chose it over the mazda3 2.3L .. just because I found it more fun to drive !
As of now, I am extremely happy with my T/C and don't see the day when I'm going to replace it (Cruze SS maybe)
Problems can happen to any car .. the guy that got problems with his Mazda is bashing on his side too .. the guy who had problems with his VW is bashing on his side .. etc...etc...

Oh My everyone is so "empowered" with your flaming wireless keyboard/krakburry..
The mere fact that gm budgeted multiple Nurberging validation development tests on their various halo vehicles [I presume that was pre-gm obamunism] was/IS a deeper committment to gm Factory Production vehicle tech development than any rice or kraut grinder mfg has ever PROVIDED [Thought of] up to this timeframe. anotherwords they (are) Leading...
if you havent had the thrill/ $$$ /time/patience to own/disassemble/service/diagnose/ /set & adjust valve followers on a 4 valve ferrari / maser/porsche/alfa romeo or other hipo + expensive garage QUEEN vehicle--they have way more sophisticated features
too: horrid 2nd gear synchro shifts whilst COLD. very squeaky suspension, requires brake fluid changes way more often than the ss-tc owners book NEVER states. (NEVER)! squeaky [earplugs pleese] sintered carbo-ceramic brakes-oh well ya all dont have those worries..!
A bmw mcLaren ( not a sLR/benz- thats a slush box) needs a clutch [press plate & disc)
(even if you are kind to it) every 2,000 - 4,000 miles
(ok, so every 4 oil changes-thats OK..) i dont think u could afford That either.
if it pulls: it's your stupid/ greasy/soft oem tires/ or you need a new--->accurate guage-not the "dash" psi's [a compromise] or reverse your tires. or you hit curbs/driveways like you do in your Prius.or jus check them coold! !
if you haven't done a FULL total/complete fluid maint. USING expensive fluids/oils within the last six (6) months you've got another hi priority....
I've purchased [not leased!!!] alot of exotics but this ss-T/c is by far the nicest compromise I have ever owned, IT's amazing they (GM) even bothered with the validation/ thought/desire--that was alot of work my friend ..
...
my next aquisition is the 2010 or '11 zr-1.
cheers to alonzo & the red cars!!
I have a 2009 SS/TC, with the standard Brembos in front and slotted and drilled rotors all around. I'm using upgraded Hawk pads...sport pads, not full-on race pads. I had the factory brake fluid replaced with a higher boiling point fluid, but this issue was the same before and after.
With street tires on dry pavement, I can press the brake pedal hard enough to engage the ABS...but it takes a long motion and a lot of pressure, basically putting the pedal all the way to the floor. That seemed a bit unusual to me.
With track tires, I can't engage the ABS under any circumstances, and the stopping power is nowhere near what I'd expect from track tires and brembos. The pedal goes all the way to the floor, but I don't get the face-in-the-dash feel. This isn't a heat issue, the performance is poor with cold, warm or hot brakes. It feels like my solstice GXP used to feel when the brake fluid was heating up 20 minutes into a session.
Is this normal for a 2009 SS? Either way, any suggestions? My guesses at this point would be to have the fluid replaced AGAIN, and if that doesn't work, investigate a replacement for the master cylinder or something.

Did you do the break in procedure correctly ?? I just had my Drilled slotted rotors and Hawk HPS pads installed 3 days ago and the first 150 miles it does feel kind of Sponge like , So I will have to see whats up with it... It seems as if the more miles you put on it the better its getting for me , I think it has to do with improper installation IMO...

Sounds like you have a hydraulic issue. Proper replacement of pads and rotors will not result in a "spongy" pedal, regardless of brand or type.
The cause of a spongy pedal is air in the hydraulic system. I would try bleeding the system and seeing if that firms up the pedal.
Just buy some DOT4 brake fluid (ATE Super Blue is excellent if you can find some, I bought mine online) and bleed each caliper until the fluid runs out clean. That should purge the system of any air.

Orrrr exactly what 08SSTCRD said
Who installed the brakes??

As Permafried and myself said, changing pads and rotors will not cause the pedal to become spongy. That is a symptom of having air in the system.
Bleeding the brakes when changing pads is not a requirement, it is definitely a recommendation though. Look at it this way; when you push the caliper backwards with the new pads (if the line is in place and the bleeder closed) you are potentially pushing nothing but air into the lines because the fluid itself is already in place for the delta in starting to current position (I don't know how better to describe this). If there is a spongy feel or loss in feedback chances are air has been fed into the line and this requires the lines to be bled off. What you are feeling is the air being pushed through the piston as the fluid tries to make its way through the lines.
Well, that's about as clear as nothing, as you were

I guess its not like a soft feeling its more like a numb feeling . I can't describe it the pedal feels hard to push like if I push it real hard it doesn't go down as far and the brakes do not feel like they used to ...
A GM dealership did the install only because I had them put new NT05s on it at the same time that I ordered from discount tire ...
