Got my car last week its got about 800 miles on it now..I drive about 100 miles a day for school and work...just wanted to know if this has happend to anyone eles...it only happens when I get on it into boost.

 

sometimes I think my SS is smoking and then I realize it's just an aura of awesomeness that it gives off.

but seriously, you should probably have that checked. Is it smoke coming off the wheels? from under the hood? Or from the exhaust?

No. Your car is perfectly fine! My brother drives behind me 3 days a week & whenever I get into boost, it puffs out smoke. That's how he knows when to goose it in his 350Z.

 

Would you trade cars with your brother !?

 

IDK... He only has an intake, but it sounds great & looks great!

But mine is more functional, and it handles better, but performs just as well.

I would have to flip a coin if I had to choose...

 

How much smoke? and where is the smoke coming from? what color is the smoke?

Need more info on the smoke. Color? When does it do it? Any codes coming up? Strange smell? Anything seem off performance wise?

 

Sometimes on a new car, there is a little oil residue in the exhaust that will burn off. Where is the smoke coming from? What color is the smoke? How much smoke?

 

It comes out whenever you make boost. No codes are thrown, not really a strange smell. And the performance, it increases because you are in boost!

Still pretty vague. If it's anything like other GM tunes, it could be a little rich. Just because you're increasing boost and it feels like it's pulling faster doesn't mean that you won't notice anything out of the ordinary. It may not bog down or feel necessarily like a drop in performance, but sometimes you'll notice strange little quirks as well.

With only 800 miles on the car, it's also kind of hard to say. Sometimes there's a little residue in the exhaust system or it's still burning off some junk too.

Yea. Mine only has like 1025 miles on it, and it has always done it. So... I kinda hope that it's normal!

 

anywho im sure OP is talking about when he goes WOT and gets a black plume of richness outta the tail pipe.

 

It's not necessarily uncommon. Keep a close eye on fluids, make sure it's not burning off significant amounts of oil or anything. But on a brand new car, you can see some smoke here and there.

 

Well, my brother knows when I go WOT because some color of smoke comes out of the back.

 

Do the TC's run rich like the SC's do? That could be a possible reason for the puff of smoke.

Just about every boosted GM performance-y car does. IIRC the supercharged 3800s did it as well. GM factory tunes all run a little rich to try and keep the engines from going pop.

 

yeah thats what i figured im just gonna keep an eye on the fluid levels

 

most new cars will smoke when you get on it good.
working with these new chryslers, you might be surprised how bad some do smoke
most hemi cars puff gray when fired up, and the 2.4L dark gray when step on it

I seen a brand new evo doing the same thing. has to be something with the boost or being new.

 

Yea ive got a smoking problem too, when i do the no lift shift from first to second, theres this funny squealing noise along with the "low traction light". It kind of smells funny like something burning... hmmm
