Question 235/40-18 questions

versus a stock size tire, if i move up will there be a noticable difference in stuff like grip, ride quaility,or will i feel the car lean over on the sidewalls more in heavy cornering? i know there gonna cost more per tire and i still not completly sold on the meatier tire look, kinda just wondering if there is any real world benifit or if its gonna be more between tire brand and model?

in theory, a 235 should have more grip than a skinnier tire. also, wider tires help you out if you like to autox or anything. and theres nothing wrong with meaty tires.

Yes, and they look great imo. I'm running bfg kdw nt's in 235/40-18 for my summer tires. They ride great in a straight line and cornering.

Hey fit but they will roll more. So you will see some loss in steering response. You can combat it with a tire that has stiffer sidewalks and use more air pressure.

I've got 235/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's and they feel a bit squishier than my previous 225/40R18 NT05's did up front with stock conti's out back... they fit on the wheel perfectly square and look better in my opinion than a 225. I've noticed a bit more grip than stock and a noticable increase in ride quality... then again it could be due to the fact that its a freaking 1200 dollar set of tires... You'll gain more traction by going to a "better" tire than you will by going a size wider btw.

235 will fit, but no point in 10MM extra. I have 255/40/18 up front and 245/40/18 in the rear on stock TC rims. I am also lowerd on CM springs. no rubbage.

LOL There is no way that those 255's dont feel squirmy unless that sidewall is made of steel. I know it all depends on the tire and how tough the sidewall is but I dont think it matters when you jump all the way up to 255 on the stock wheels.

It sure looks nice though

A lot of ppl run 235 on stock rims. Anything over that is generally not recommended as the rim width is not big enough although people still do it

Meh, not really. I have taken them to the track and they hold up very well.

I run 235 but I spend most of my time going in a straight line, not around corners, so the wider tire is more necessary

Oh sure, in a straight line it must be great, no doubt. I meant handling-wise, cornes on the streets and such. Again, it still looks great

Agreed, I was running 235 Hancooks EVO v12s. Never noticed any issues in cornering as long as I kept the tire pressure at about 35-36psi as the sidewalls seemed to be less sturdy than the stock contis at 225.

You should not run anything bigger than a 235 on the stock TC wheels. You can get away with 245 but you're pushing it on a 7.5" rim.

I've been running 235/40/18 ContiExtremeContact DWS tires for over a year now and ran the same size Nitto NT555's prior to that with NO issues.

With the lightly larger tire size, you just need to compensate a couple pounds of air pressure and they will not feel squishy or roll any easier than the stock Conti's. Any variation would be minoot - You wouldn't notice it.

Proper pressure for tire size vs vehicle weight gives the proper contact patch and sidewall stiffness for a properly working tire.

Yes, straight line is great. I meant circuit track with corners and turns, Button willow and Willow springs Big track.

Does very well in the canyon runs I do too. I agree with not going more than 245 though, no point unless you have 8" rim.

What psi are people running there 235/40 kdw2? I've started at 32 and notice about the same speed into the corners as my stock conti's with a little loss of turn in response due to flex, but my god I can hammer the throttle in the apex and they pull the car around like a bat out of hell where as the conti's would slip and under steer a bit. I'm thinking a couple psi more would help the flex a tad?
