Alcantara Steering Wheel Options

Alcantara...
Just curious if anyone has done this your self with the Redline kit?
I got a quote from a local shop for a little more $ but they do it without taking the risk of messing it up myself. It doesn't seems difficult just time consuming?

After some thinking, I'd ordered this style from Redline and take advantage of their Columbus weekend sale 10% off.
Leather top and bottom with alcantara side gripe. Up to 10 weeks for delivery.
They only charge $50 core charge which is a lot less then Vivid which wanted $400.

Here is the Vivid one with more options and 50% more $.. Carbon top and bottom.. Is the owner of this car on the forum? Looks great with custom dash too.

This is my first choice flat top/bottom but they wanted $400 core charge is a no go. I want to keep my stock. I could buy one ebay/wrecker but it is a pita shipping border charges etc..

@Snail_SS would be the person to chat with since he did a steering wheel swap (with a fancier wheel!).

I got mine from a company called socalgarageworks. It's been holding up really good for me I got mine in leather as I was afraid of the condition it was going to end up with my hands and sweat with the heat here with the Alcantara. They are pricey tho

Have you though of doing a custom leather interior? They are so beautiful. Would be a dream to have a custom interior.
Do you have the shift light hook up? Nice LCD btw.

Yup the shift light is connected and works great. Here is basically the opposite. Some kinda cold days with mostly 100°F+ summers. That might work for you then. I haven't thought about much mods to the car lately tbh just been enjoying it the way it is. If anything I'm planning on going with cams in the future and upgrade the clutch so that I can put that power to the wheels and not have the clutch slip.

Here is a quick video I took awhile back

Only if I'd known sooner, I would have gone with your setup with the shift light. Very nice.

Not like you have enough gauges in front of you

Still got 5 more! What are you replacing the gauge with, or just leaving it out?

Just leaving it out. I'll have the rpd,the stock boost gauge, 1 interceptor and the steering wheel mini screen. I'm leaving it out as the screen on them isn't that good anymore I guess the heat is finally getting to them

Well, with your temp in your video sitting at oven-like levels, I would imagine so; yes.

I've been having that issue too. If the car has been sitting in the sun and the interior is about volcano°F, then the screen will just wash out. Once it cools down though, it returns to normal. I started using the windshield sunshade from my old Audi S5 and that helps, but I don't have any window tint, so that doesn't help. That's something I need to have done before next summer.

Lol same here I gotta tint my whole car again. I removed the front window tint as I kept failing inspection so I just removed it. Same happens with mine but it already stays washed out and it's hard to read even after it's cooled down

After a long 3 months wait due to Covid I was told, it had finally arrived. I have asked for the center ring on top of the steering wheel too but it was accidentally left out. Oh well, I will have to add that myself with a strip of adhesive back leather. Nicely well padded.

Looks really good and expensive lol. I thought about doing this to my G5 once i get done with the performance mods. So did you have to send in a core for this or they send you a brand new steering wheel to install?

Thanks. I was a little anxious after 8 weeks and still no news on my steering wheel. Now I have to make sure I have extra clean hands on the steering wheel.

Cheap and custom wrap steering don't go together. The one from Snail ss is even more $.
I am very please that I only pay an extra $50 for the core charge which I will keep mine's. It will be different gripping a thicker wheel for the first time when spring comes.

Yeah I'm really impressed with the quality of it. I just went on their site I see they got leather covers for shift boots also. I might order some stuff from them in the spring.
