Another Snow + TC Thread
They are pretty good tires from what I saw with them. I had the Honkook Icebear tire on my old Civic and compared to this, night at day. Like the icebear was still good but more of a ice/front not alot of snow tire, the Arctic tires work like a dream yesterday and with TC off and the ECS still on, its awesome. You feel the back breaks slowing you down if you get into a sideways drift a little
i have the bfg g-force super sport tires also, supposed to do pretty well in the snow considering its an ultra high performance all season, so far in heavy rain they are awesome, cant wait to try them in the snow

They didn't impress me in warmer conditions but I have to say that my opinion of these tires changed yesterday night.
....thank god I got 'em mother nature has been non-stop shitting snow on my car since I picked her up
....don't get me wrong you can still spin the tires obviously...(LSD setup)....they are above and beyond most any tire I would put on my car in this winter BULL-CRAP!
Burrowing out of 4-6" tom. thank you VERY much....
(GOT my tires on TIRERACK.....300 cheaper than discount tire....-57 for fitment)
"i'm using stock rims for now too"
Just had loads of freezing rain tonight. No snow... Drove home from work about 30 miles. The side streets were the worst.
Once again the BFG SS A/S and the Cobalt performed flawless!
The ABS never kicked in until I made it to see how it was on ice. Worked awesome!
If you are wanting All-Seasons you can't go wrong with these.

im getting the BFG G-force all season. They have great reviews. make sure if anyone else gets them to get the 235/40/18 because they put .5" more tred on the ground then the factory size "225/40/18" plus they look better than the factory tire. got these for my SRT-4 and i got much better traction b/c i got the meatier tire. that .5 adds up really fast! total of 2" of extra traction
The TC handles much much better than my SC. The yaw control/stabilitrac keeps the car headed straight under throttle instead of sliding to the side like my sc did. Good improvement. Snow is snow and sucks no matter what, but this car is very decent in the snow.
If you're driving crazy and too fast for conditions then none of these systems (e.g. ABS, TCS, ESC) will save you. If you're driving in poor weather, leave the stability control on but never get in the habit of relying on the electronic nanny to save you. Once you've gone past the traction limit of your tires there's not much you or the car can do.

Wider tires for winter? That will help it float in the slush and wet snow..... bad.
Ive been in two snow storms on stock tires since I got the 09 SS. One of which was last night here in NJ... I quickly learned that you will get no where fast with the traction control ON.. Best bet is to turn it off or use comp. mode and TAKE IT EASY! Staying off boost will keep the front end from veering off path.
I know people try to gather meets but I don't see any posts of anybody meeting up. there is a ontariocobalt.com or something like that is just a forum for Ontario but they aren't as active as this forum. You gonna drive down for a meet?
Thats why they are all season tires man! that 235/40/18 work out great in the summer when you want to get more traction. Im telling you a wider tire is better for the whole year just not winter. lol im not gonna take turns going 60 in the winter anyway. They are WAY better than stock
I go to school at Laurier in Waterloo, so I'm not too far down the road from Toronto
Oh ok lol. It would be a bit crazy to drive that far for a meet but I have heard of weirder stuff. One dude drove from Winnipeg to Toronto for a Mazda 3 meet. That was crazy as he said he just was bored and wanted something to do
I have Kumo ASC and no LSD and it is very easy for me to drive in the Snow/ Ice cover roads. I Wish I did have LSD but oh well. Traction Control works great and only had the ESC come on one time. Prety much All-Seasons in general on the TC is a great choice. We will see how my TC will do in this Ice Storm we are going to have tonight.
