Any 100k+ mile LNFs tuned with HPTune here?

Got in touch with a member here who does HPTunes for $50. It sounds like a hell of a deal, so I'm willing to get it done on my next day off next week.

I just want to know what to expect. My car is at 121k miles now. I live in SoCal and need to get a SMOG check done this summer. My only performance mod is a K&N Typhoon cai that I installed back in 2012.

I just want to know what I can expect as far as reliability goes. I'm sure there aren't too many other LNFs pushing past 120k miles. For those who are and have a tune, too, how's the car holding up?

I don't have a tune, but the quality of the tune depends completely on your tuner. HPTuners is a tool used to change the computer, but the changes are done by each individual in his own way. Your tuner could make some changes and totally blow up the car, or could change almost nothing. Totally depends on his skillz.

That's why you monitor the car.

The guy's name is brycerice13, btw. I looked him up here and it seems he's tuned a couple peoples' Cobalt SS/TCs in the past.

Honestly never heard of him. A tune is only as good as the tuner. Choose wisely, I know it's only $50, which is unusually cheap, but in reality choosing a good tuner is a several thousand dollar investment, a bad tune can destroy a motor.

That cheap price is not worth a blown motor. I wonder who this guy has tuned.

Yeah, you're definitely right about that... He said he has tuned 2009 Cobalt SS/TCs and has a tune already setup for people just wanting to run on 91 octane.

Well, I've gotten to 121k miles without a tune. I guess I can keep going without one. Maybe the Trifecta canned tune will be the best option for me? People here say they hate it, but nobody ever really gives a real reason besides "HPTunes is better."

Just find somebody that remote tunes using HP Tuners. Downsides of Trifecta are they lock the PCM so only they can modify the power and with a good tuner you'll get more power out of your car with HP Tuners vs Trifecta.

I've tried finding people in SoCal, but nobody seems to know anyone who does it.

This guy I've PM'd with has tuned one person I can find a thread about a few years ago.

Other than that, I don't know. No other info.
He contacted me back in 2012 and offered to tune my car, but I didn't see his post until months later.

134,000 miles.

I've run a 22psi tune for over 80,000 miles. No issues.

No FB, but I guess I could make one. I don't like social media too much. I live in Riverside County, btw.
I'll check out SoCal Ecotecs later today.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll avoid this dude's $50 deal then. I don't want to risk my DD having a blown motor or transmission or anything else just because I wanted to save money on a tune. lol

Do you already have hp tuners? If not either you need to use someone's cable or buy hp tuners to get tuned.

How much? And if that dude Unique Crysis, who posted above you, and I both want to do it, can you give us some sort of discount?

Either way, I'm very intrigued. Please lmk.

$50 for a full custom tune?? He's either flat out giving his time away for charity work, or he's just flashing a basic tune he pulled from somewhere else. Kinda dicey sounding.

You guys would have to find the tuner, you know who's recommended on this site. I'd charge you for the credits on my cable thats all, what the tuner charges you have to figure out. I'd just help with loading and logging.

I would assume he's snagged BYT's off the hptuners forum.

I actually don't know who's recommended on this site. lol

So how would we do this? You take our ECU info, send it to whoever is a reputable tuner on CSS.net, they send a proper tune back and you flash it for us? Would it be possible to find someone to do it in one day or would this be a long process? You know, sending info back and forth.
