apr k04 vs. cobalt ss K04

My roommates and me have this un-mentioned rivalry in our house, (two 2010 gtis, one stage 1 and the other a "full" stage 2) both aprs. I just got 08 balt a couple months ago, ive finally taken out the white stage 1 gti,(he is talking about getting a golf r now) while i havent taken out the stage 2(close race) he talking about getting this http://www.goapr.com/products/stage3_20_tsi_trans.html, which is a garret k04, now i dont know much about turbos is that one bigger? Netting him 360hp with bolt ons, my car wouldnt be that fast with bolts and a tune without doing a turbo upgrade, im confused on how that is possible? Your input would be helpful thanks

I don't see any actual specs of the turbo on their site, while it may be of the same k04 family as our turbo it might be different in size. But 410hp(most likely at the crank) makes that golf a potent little thing.
You're definitely going to need a tune to keep up with it, an e85 tune would be ideal.

Thats probably crank horespower, not wheel horsepower, get an intake, downpipe and a custom tune and you will probably run even with him if he gets the upgrade.

Bolt-ons and tune will net you around the low 300's in hp, but around 350+ in torque at the wheels. Add the no lift to shift feature with perfect shifts and you might give him a challenge.

Yay, this is where I come in! I had a stage 2 GTI. My stock balt will be even with it. I have a kn intake, catless downpipe, intercooler and trifecta tune. I raced my buddies stage 2, raped him 35- 100 about 5 cars (I hit 100 idk about him haha). APR k04 is a borg warner k04 not garret btw. It is a slightly bigger CHRA than our k04. But we somehow have much more torque and power. BTW ask to see if it is FSI engine or TSI engine in the gti causte that will make a big difference. If it is TSI k04 with DSG, I'm sure my/our car will have some trouble keeping up, they trap in the 112 mph. If it is FSI motor, I dont think it will be a problem, you might pull on him by a car. GTI's are quick with k04 no doubt about it. I'm about to go race my buddies stage 3 GTI with DSG he has a built motor. I'm sure he will rape me, I just want to know by how much. This should be a good example :

2010 GTI's are TSI. and i believe it to be 360 to the wheels. They have dyno sheets on the website.

ahh yes, must have skiped the 2010 part lol idk how. but yea 06-08 mkv gti is FSI 09 mkv is TSI mk6 is all TSI. So yea if they have a k04 it will be a real good racee, i need to find one down here.

It's 360 ona dynapak dyno. Not to the wheels to the crank. they take off your wheel and connect it to one of those dyno machines. Here is a dyno on a dynojet with their current firmware update v2.0 vs their older firmware v1.0

The big difference is twin scroll vs single scroll. And ours have that fancy BPV built into the housing. Otherwise they are similar turbo's.

With a solid tune on your car it should be a very good run!

Ahh, yes we are twin scroll that is a difference. The APR K04 TSI kit has a custom CNC machined compressor housing by APR that does the same thing.

Nah not to the wheels. That is APR stage 3. Here is a current dyno comparison with their new version 2.0 with both their APR k04 and APR stage 3 system (gt28rs)

E85 is the way to go. I got my tune from BYT and its actually scary how fast the car is now.I raced a Z06 in the tunnels the other night starting at 30 mph and had 4 car lengths on him by 120 before he finally started to catch up to me due to better trans and gearing

No, not with the APR k04 kit, only 300-310 whp. APR Stage 3 kit is 340-360 whp, they use a gt28rs not a k04.

Your mod sig does not say otherwise. Easy 400 whp on stock turbo with e85+meth. That is the most you can squeeze out of the stock turbo though. I dont know about being 4 cars ahead of a z06, c6 yes maybe.
