Best Cold Air Intake?

Perhaps this thread has already been done...

I live in Arizona..it's warm and mostly dry. Can anyone recommend the best cold air intake for this area? (Dusty)

Thanks ahead of time.

none of them. lol. if you get a intake be prepared to fork out some money to get a tune to go with it, otherwise your gonna throw CELs galore.

ive never had any type of codes because of my intake. The only way i could see one coming on is if you have k&n and use the recharge kit and the oil from that gets on the maf sensor.

Its not so much the cel codes you have to worry about...its the afr.

yeah that too, CELs have shown up on a few different CAIs though, but the AFRs will be outta wack. you can lose power from getting an aftermarket intake. so far the best bet is to replace the accordian elbow piece with a silicone coupler and drop a K&N filter in the airbox.

I run a Hahn cold air on my 09 SS -- it uses a K&N air filter -- no cels, no problems.

Just wondered because I have the stage kit... as soon as the codes for the flash gets released I'll be doing itl. I thought it might be beneficial to have the CAI for that as well.

Please correct me if you guys think I'm wrong here.. I'm a noob to this 'make a turbo car fast' thing.

I think the intake will go fine with a stage kit, I think you forgot to mention that

This is a tough one to answer. It seems that all the intakes out there will throw off afr's and some may even be bad enough to throw an occasional code. I purchased the AEM intake and was quickly very disappointed in the fact that it causes compressor surge when you are trying to stay at a constant speed and upon a cold start up. I think honestly the best bang for the buck is to modify your stock airbox and check your filter often and clean it often since you are in a very dusty environment. *my 2 cents*

I'm with you guys.. You're more or less wasting your money unless you get tuned although the car will definitely sound cooler due to the "BOV" effect you will get.. It's sort of a crap shoot really.. Some guys (like me, even before my tune) have never thrown a CEL with a CAI, and some guys have had nothing but issues from the intake regardless of the manufacturer.. Either way your AFRs will be screwy whichever you go with.. Take your pick I suppose..

It is my experience from listening to the horror stories on this board that unless you are tuned don't do it and even after a tune you still may have issues with surge.

Most likely your code was for running too rich if the filter got wet or a MAF error if it got wet. A CAI is dangerously close to the fog light opening in heavy rain. I looked at my AEM after getting caught in a downpour and was surprised how much water was in the compartment.

If you are not tuned for the CAI, the fuel trims are prob off 6 - 8% already and a code sets around 13 or 14%. I know when I had a code for the LTFT's it read 14.1 when I hooked up HP Tuners to it.

That's why I'm asking now as to what the best CAI might be. I have the stage kit and I'm just waiting for it to be authorized for the tune. I thought about taking it all to the dealer and see if they would install the cai AND do the flash/tune. I thought having them install the cai might make it more appealing to them as far as making money.

Question... When they do the flash...with they also do a tune? Are they on in the same?

Thanks ahead of time.

Your best bet is probably the clear image cold air intake. it had no fueling issues on the stock tune. I ordered it and will provide results.

Cuda was referring to the TC, not NA or SC. The TC is a bitch with intakes and our cars don't take to them great until they're "tuned out"
