Brakes Scary when WET !!!

Hello.
I have a 09 SS Turbo with the Brembo's on front. I find that when it's raining and or wet the brakes are scary ! I'm not a timid driver, but when I first step on the brakes in the rain there's no immediate response. It's like I have to dry the rotors with the pads for a second or two before they start to work. So now I'm somewhat ready for it.

I'm wondering if others have experienced this ?
If it's a common thing on these cars ?
And what the problem might be ?

I've changed the front pads that were metallic and quite glazed looking with a new set of ceramics. Braking seems better already, but haven't had any rain yet to test it.

Thanks for any help.
Jeff

Drilled rotors help, mine get rid of the water pretty quick. I'm guessing slotted would also work.

Normal pump them a couple times or hit them twice as hard as you think you need to then itl stop.

I have wondered if the ceramic pads make this any better ive always used oem pads

Normal. But now you've reduced your stopping power by changing the pads. The stock pads are very good, not much out there aftermarket is better.

Slotted and drilled almost entirely fix that issue. Almost All "big break" kits on vented undrilled rotors do this due to water not being a me to escape from under the pad quick enough. Friction causes water to expand causing the pad to sort of hiver over the rotor for a second until the water boils off. Drilled and slotted give the expanding liquid a path to escape.
Changing pads shouldn't make any difference (and helpfull difference) in regard to this.

My wife almost smacked me when she took my car in the rain the other day. It was impossible to try and explain to her why these famous Brembo brakes were so shitty when cold and wet.

Thanks for all the replies.
Sounds like it shoulda been a recall or something.
Are the Centric 227.62072 C-Tek Sport drilled and slotted rotors a decent product ?
Thanks.

OMG just press the damn pedal a little harder, this would happen to any large performance brake. We don't need a recall for something this minor.

the first time I thought I was going to **** myself.....

now I just hate the rain but I know a double press will generally do the trick when wet....

I try to stay away from drilled or slotted to many instances of rotor cracking or breaking....

simple fix, remember that in the rain or get a different car if the brakes bug you that much....

Pressing harder makes it worse
The double press is what works best. Or waiting a second for the brakes to catch. Which feels like a century when you suddenly have to stop.

Yup, but slotted for daily driving wont crack, just have a second solid set for track days

Is this something that only brembo guys are experiencing, because ive never experienced this with LSJ brakes? I do know that the pedal is very mushy on the stock brakes but SS brake lines on all 6 lines solved that problem immediately.

Yep it's the bigger surface area of the brembos creating the problem.z

This. Unlike most parts on our cars. it's hard to "upgrade" the brakes with anything aftermarket.

All cars with large disc brakes have this issue to some extent. Just something you get used to and never give any second thought after that.

Agreed. Stop with the recalls

Definitely a consideration if you hit your brakes hard on a regular basis, especially on a road track, auto-x or canyon carving. Most aftermarket drilled rotors for the Cobalt are pretty shitty quality. Don't even start comparing them to drilled discs on a Porsche

This. My slotted rotors helped with this issue a lot.

Go on...im curious as to how more surface area makes it harder to stop.

Because it's really not.

@Spawne32 we're talking about water being trapped between the larger surface to read the thread before commenting.
