Question, anyone know where I can find the rebuild kit for the brembos? I want to powdercoat my brakes and to do it properly I need to take them apart and Id like to put them back together with new rubber and stuff. Been searching and I have found kits for the subaru's and others, dont know if they are the same.

LOL Thanks guys for reviving this. I had something like 51 views yesterday with no response so I gave up.

I dont know how to powdercoat so Im not doing them myself. I have a friend that does real nice powdercoating and thats who Im taking them to, as well as my intake, cp, wheels and valve cover. Im going to do it little by little. Anyways, his name is laser_racer here on CSS.

As far as I know the rebuild kit would consist of new seals and rubber boots. I cant find any info on wether or not our brembos are any different from other four piston brembos out there. Maybe we can use a kit made for a subbie...???

Yeah, same here. Thats why I want the kit. I dont want to reuse the old rubber and seals.

 

They don't make one for this caliper. To get all the hardware you need to buy a whole new caliper, that's the only way it comes. As for taking it apart it is difficult and requires special tools. Since your calipers have been used there is no way to assure you get all of the brake fluid out of them. You do not want it bleeding out during baking. Would not be good for the powdercoat. Best thing to do is by new ones and have them powdercoated, then sell the used ones to someone on here. If you don't want to do that you could just send the whole thing off to powdercoating. The brakes can see temps up to 1000 degrees on the track, so a ~400 degree oven isn't going to hurt them. But, you can't guarantee you'll get all the brake fluid out of used calipers, so that is risky. Just my 0.02

 

Okay, great info. Good to know. Thats why ppl have been buying them new, PC'ing them and then selling the old ones.

Yup, that's the best thing to do. Expensive, but the correct way.

 

Ran into the same issues as everyone else... I actually ended up using plain duplicolor on mine... It has last just fine for about 2000 miles and I was even able to match my body color... not a bad deal...

 

yep you said it......most guys buy new ones because of that. you run the risk of literally baking the fluid into the calipers. you will never get it all out. best bet.....buy new sell old.

theres is a way to take apart the calipers but its a major pia and really easy to screw up.

there is a company in texas called Tirado Coatings. They do anodizing and powdercoating for a lot of mitsubishi and subaru guys as well as rebuild calipers for them. You might want to get a hold of him and see if they can help you out with finding a rebuild kit as well as coating. They color match vehicle paint with powdercoat. www.tiradocustomcoatings.com

cant you get replacement parts through Gm? like a local dealer? doesnt make sense to just BUY a new set of calipers just to powdercoat them. Compressed air should get all the excess brake fluid out. just my .02 cents. But what do i know.... im just the 800 lbs gorilla in the room

I find it hard to believe that our calipers are so one off that there arent any replacement parts.

There may not be an actual "rebuild kit" but they must use the same seals from this caliper and boots from that caliper, ya know.

 

i would just paint the calipers. if you do it correctly, they shouldnt chip and its easier to match with
