its the motor trying to warm up the cat... the direct injection pumps gas into it and you hear the turbo spooling, if you have an intake it sounds like a massive 4 cylinder vacuum cleaner

Listen all you bypass sound nut huggers. If the bypass sound makes you smile think about investing in a BOV lol. Think about your bypass valve cold but 2x as loud with your car warmed up. im sorry but it just makes driving that much more fun

WOW......No not the cat warm up . That sounds like crap anyway.

The bypass between shifts on my car starts out loud then gradually gets quieter till you can't even hear it . I'm not nut huggin the bypass sound ....i'm curious if there is a problem with the bypass on my car. Thanks

Yeah .....I know the CAT warm up sequence but it's not what i'm talking about . My car when driven in the morning AFTER the CAT is WARM ......... Has a loud PShhhhhh when i shift from 1st to 2nd ect ect...... After the car has been driven say 10 miles .......There is no more Pshhhhh when i shift . LOL Sorry to say it like that but it's kinda frustrating that the CAT warm up has derailed this post.

Yeah it sounds basass early on, and I'm not really sure how people are confusing the issue on here with the cat warming up but it's all good.

You can upgrade the spring in the BPV? What benifits do you see from changing the spring, and should you go stiffer or softer? Sorry to sound like a dummy, I just didn't realize this was an option unless you had an atmospheric BOV..

Dejon sells a stiffer spring but I think it can cause flutter/surging issues. Someone will chime in I'm sure.

You guys are epic failures for getting into boost while the car is still cold.... turn your keys in and go play on a civic site

no boost until 190 degrees. Your rings and oil consumption will suffer down the road....

other than driving around on the limiter all day, this is THE dumbest behavior ive heard of

alrighty there tough guy, way to **** on the thread and mark your territory..

First off, I don't think anyone was stating that they're boosting the hell out of their car when it's cold so get off your high horse.

I don't know about anyone else, but even when I'm taking off lightly down my road, the boost guage is reading 0 psi and then shift gears I still get a BOV sound from the car.. I'm pretty sure that is what the OP is refering to more or less. Prior to the car being up to full temp and you're NOT boosting it, you seem to get a louder then normal blow off sound..

Whe do most folks on this site have to be some sort of tough guy, wise ass, or straight up know it all **** sucker? It completely defeats the purpose of even having these open forums

I never boost hard on a cold car . Even when the water temp is 194 but the car hasn't been driven very far .....the by pass is alot louder than if you drive 20 miles . After 20 miles i cant hear the bypass at all.......... I'm wondering if it's not working correctly or if there is something else wrong

You'll notice that it's louder when it's colder outside too. That's one of the perks of winter I'm looking forward too.

I understand what you mean OP. It makes the sound when the engine is cold or it's cold outside even though you're not in boost sometimes. You hear it better usually when the all the windows and sunroof are closed too.

Oh and...

This^

There, I chimed in. With a stiffer spring, it won't open as soon or for as long by the nature of it (the whole way it makes that sound, by letting more pressure build up). That makes it more conducive to have flutter/surge.

^^This. I wasn't talking about boosting the car when its cold. The boost guage doesn't even have to go into the postive, the BPV still louder for the first couple of km's. I always wait untill the boost guage goes down to normal, after I start the car cold, before I move it.

Must make you feel good to sit behind your keyboard and call people names without knowing anything.
