can somebody explain this

I just got 08 tc black cobalt about 2 months ago and I just learned that the battery is in the trunk. Why did they do this?To help with the front weight bias? And yet the terminals for jump starts are under the hood?

The terminals are at the front so it's more convenient to jump somebody or vice versa. And I'm with this guy, ^^ how the heck do you not know where the battery is.

And with the battery in the trunk some one can jump you from the rear. Like if your parked in with two cars on each side or find yourself stalled on the highway...

And the battery is away from all the heat in the engine bay.

Its a very smart design.

for real tho... with the battery in the trunk, it sees less extreme of an enviroment(sp, i've benn drinking...) then in the engine bay, think about it, it ten degrees out, you start the car, go to the store its 200, go in come out, go home. the car sits for 4 hours, then you have to go somewhere , you go out and the engine bay is50, you start up drive off then its 200 again that a lot for anything.

No no... you still jump someone from the engine bay.. they have a terminal for the positive and you can clamp the negative on your strut tower etc....

edit: same as the guy above said

The reason i did not know this is because right now I use my Scion Xb as my daily driver.I have only driven it on weekend when the weather is perfect.I might as well keep the mileage down until I return the leased scion in December to Wells Fargo who I can tell I am going to hate by the end of this.(350 dollars or something like that just went you return the car= extortion fee as far as I am concerned)

Fair enough, but IMO one of the first things to do when you get a new car is to open the hood to make sure everything is in working order, fluids are okay, nothing unusual etc.

I agree to a point. It would be better to have the battery weight in the front. Then again, I don't think it would be that much better for traction. The pros out weigh the cons, no pun intended.

Explain to me why, for a "super sport" FWD vehicle, General Motors would suddenly decide to put the battery in the rear.

maybe space under the hood also? Could allow for more air flow around the engine. And then for cramming the SC and TC in there?

I'm guessing it was more for packaging reasons than heat/weight distribution, can make the overall car smaller and lighter if you don't have to make room in the engine bay to put it.
