Cat warm up with zzp tune
Cat warm up with zzp tune
So. Recently bought the zzp tune for my tc. I had 2 cold starts since install (one day temp was 40s and today in the 50s) the car was sitting for a full day both times prior to start.
Stock my car would sit at 1500rpm and slowly fall as warmed up. I could also hear the cai sucking in air. Now with the tune. It sits at 1000rpm and doesn't seem to drop to 800rpm til after I start to drive it. I started my car today got out and smoked a cigarette and it was still at 1000rpms. Also noticed the cai is alot quiter then it was on the stock pcm.
Is this how they have it tuned for a warm up being a canned tune ? Trying to make sure everything cool before I send my refundable core back. Lol
I did notice throttle response has a bit more go to it. I have yet to wot tho because I heard people blowing the stock cold side pipe at 50 and below. After markets are coming next year lol

The catilystm heatup can suddently turn off one morning due to cold temps and the oil being thicker than it should since it's cold so it shuts it off to prevent wear with cold oil.
My old white cobalt did this suddenly one morning so I had to sit there and wait for it to warm up lol.

It was only mid 40s and 50s tho. It's just different that it sits at 1000rpms instead of 1500. Warm up takes longer.
I saw a thread on the solstice page and someone mentioned warm up takes longer with this tune. I guess I could of asked zzp but was hoping someone from there may chime in or someone else that has the zzp tune.

Oh I know this . my foot is never near the gas pedal when starting. Hell, I use my right foot to press the clutch when I start it cuz I always get back out.
Everything else is fine it seems, so I'm just gonna stick with it. At least it's quieter in the am for my neighbors lol

If it's only going to 1000 now and no sucking sound then it's disabled, the car still does its normal warmup when it's cold, idles at 1000ish and slowly falls as it warms, mine does the same

Back on topic, I am not aware of GM vehicles ever turning off cat light off because it was too cold, i've started my stock cobalt SS down to below 0 F, and Cat light off was always present. I've started cars down to -40 C and cat lightoff was always present.
OP, sounds like ZZP turned off the cat warm up feature, easiest way to find out is ASK THEM! if they turn that feature off, end of story.
You need to know if a car is catless before tuning to be able to delete the codes that will pop up and also to tune the cat over temp table. When i tune somebody I leave the warmup on unless I am asked to take it off. I think it sounds cool and it warms up the car faster so it's quicker to drive
Thanks for the responses here. I get a little ocd bout things in my car and its even worse when I don't really know **** about cars. Lol I hear something different one day and thing the world's coming to and end and its blowing up.
No prob I'm glad you're feeling at ease now
