Changing Tunes?

So I purchased my 09 Cobalt SS Used and it has a canned tune on it already. Basicly for warranty sake I was going to bring my vehicle to the dealership where I purchased it and was going to explain the situation with the vehicle and ask them to reflash the car back to stock tune.

1. Is this possible will the factory tuning override all that was changed with my PCM.

2. Will I get any warranty hassles in the furture should something break and they check the vehicles history and see it did have tune at one point. Even though it will be either stock or GSM1 installed.

I plan on getting GSM1 installed but not for another month or two. When I get some money Ive been waiting on.

Are you sure that the canned tune isnt already GMS1? It'll have two blue bosch map sensors instead of the factory black ones and white connectors instead of like red, orange, yellow, etc.

My map is black with 3 wires =(
I also boost 22lbs in 2-3rd and have a boost reduction in 1st to 5psi that increases once I get higher in the revs to about 17-18psi .

I think going in and telling them it has a tune and you want it flashed back to stock might be a bad idea, they will probably try to just deny your warranty right there.

Thats what Im saying but I bought the car less than a week ago. Certified Pre-Owned If thats going to be the case they are getting the keys and car back right there. Should I maybe just buy a stock PCM from somewhere and put it in and just go from there. <<< That idea isnt one Im real excited about as its more money out of my pocket IMO I shouldnt have to spend since basicly im not getting what I payed for.

If you bought it less than a week ago and they have an implied warranty then you are fine.

Just tell them the situation. They will love you for it because it might save their ass. If they try to deny the warranty then they will be seeing a lawyer or the keys back.

well if they didn't see it when they sold it to you chances are real good they won't see it when you bring it in for a problem. And if they bitch and moan, flat out tell them I BOUGHT IT LIKE THIS. If they don't like that answer, ask them what kind of inspection they do on certified pre-owns, most likely they will feel more ashamed then you will. I am lucky to buy mine from a nissan dealership where they don't know **** about paper.

THere is another member going through the same thing. If they imply warranty then deny on the basis of something they sold you then they are at fault. It's not like it has been months after purchase. It's a week!

Blown Engine! Me vs. GM, Worst Situation EVER! - TBSSOWNERS.com Forums - The #1 TrailblazerSS Dedicated Owners Forum

This is what im trying to avoid.
And yea I believe they would not detect the tune UNLESS something in the powertrains fails in some way and they went investigating.

I would check and see if the car acts different with the cruise button on or off or in comp mode ......it might be a selectable trifecta tune . That way you might be able to figure out who tuned it. Don't bother with a second PCM ..... there is a serial number on the pcm that a GM dealer can check against the cars build sheet ...... IF they are smart enough to look it up.

If your mind is made up about taking it back ............ maybe ask them to "check" if the calibration is stock or not ..... tell them you were reading online that the car shouldn't boost that high and you want to be safe . Act as dumb as possible lol . They might give you crap because they might think there is already damage done and wont want anything to do with it.... thats why its a shitty situation to be in after legitimately buy the car that way.

I have a solution for you...microwave your pcm for like 5 secs and it will be fried, the dealer wont be able tell what the fudge happened and the pcm wont communicate for shyt and they'll replace it for ya for under warranty and they will put the appropriate tune for ya...

Tested and works, somebody I know did it coz his aftermarket tune f'd his **** up, is it ethical ? naaah, but hey im just tellin you what happened !!!

Do at your own risk thou !

I guess I could just man up and fork over the cash for GSM1 now and when they flash my pcm it will wipe clean the old tune.

Also on this trifecta cruise control thing could someone explain this so i could check it?

Isnt there some wierd stipulation about GSM1 though that if installed after the car is new it only gives 12/12k warranty?

Do what Rukkee said.. if you bought it like that take it back and have them reflash or make sure they know it had tune on it when you bought it. Play stupid

That 12/12 is the warranty on the parts in the kit .... not the powertrain or bumper to bumper for your car.

The trifecta thing can be set up to the users preference ..... mine is cruise on = GM stage 1 ......cruise off = 24 psi trifecta tune . Others have it set with the traction control button , so your going to have to try them all out and keep track of the boost or how the car feels .

if you found a good tuner with hp tuners he could set all of your parameters back to stock
and save that file. then do a write entire with that file. wouldn't that work? it would show
all stock settings and also show no flashes. right?

I dont notice a difference with the cruise on/off. But I think since Im in Illinois near Chicago I am just going to bring it to CED and have them do a GSM1 from what iI understand that will overwrite any previous tune and should still keep my warranty. I dont think I am even going to mention the tune I suspect my car of having .

The problem there is that if you have the GMS1 tune without the sensors, they're still going to know something is wrong.
