Cheap Paint Job

Do you all have the same issue on the coupes. I have owned a lot of cars and I always thought the paint on the Chevy trucks is very very durable for the most part. I could ding wrenches and all sortsa stuff on my truck and the paint hardly ever scratches or dings.

Cobalts how ever what a crock looks like they painted it once and called it good. I am not very pleased with the paint quality . I know the Red tint coat is different and probably why it costs more but for the normal colors how is it holding up for you guys?

The paint is just as good or better quality than an aftermarket paint job. If you dont believe me, I have done bodywork for about 7 years now, and the best paint job a car will ever see is the original job from the factory.

I kinda have to agree wit this one.I have 2 adjacent scratches on my passenger side door already that i caught while i was doing a wax job.The scratches look a light grey to the black, but yet i can't feel anything..

edit:And something else that bothers me is that the hood in particular is spider webbing already.Ya know, that look you see when you look at it in a certain light.I know that just is'nt normal on a brand new paint job.I am thinking it won't last long under the turbo heat.

Weird, guess it's just a hard job and we expect too much.

I am VERY pissed about the paint.

There is dust/dirt in the clear and under the color coat in some areas. This is entirely unacceptable and it has tested my love affair with GM.

There is dust/dirt in the clear and under the color coat in some areas. There are two large runs on the inside of the driver's side door and on the bumpers in the corners you can see a complete absence of silver paint.

This is entirely unacceptable and it has tested my love affair with GM.

I'm incredibly pissed about the paint. Now in combination with all the other things I have had go wrong or that weren't right from the factory...I can nearly say that I am completely dissatisfied.
  1. Shift cables weren't properly adjusted and the shifter was not centered. I had to adjust this myself to correct the problem. This problem also prevented the reverse lock-out form working and in turn allowed me to knick reverse while downshifting from 5th to 4th...
  2. The driver's side door rubs on the front fender everytime I open and close the door...so paint is rubbing off there...still have yet to take it to the stealership for this.
  3. the moonroof was tilted in one corner...pretty bad...adjusted that myself...

I'd say wait a couple months and clay bar your car, or take it back to the dealership.

i know in CA starting in 2007 auto body shops had to start using water based paints. some enviromental regulation. maybe Chevrolet has switched over as well.

Explain to me how a clay bar is going to take out dirt and large chunks that are baked into the paint and clear coat?

the factory paint on mine isnt very good either. The clear coat near the fog lights sucks, also on the lip its ver marginal. The paint on the fenders is also not well done the clear coat is really pitted and poorly applied. I have contemplated getting it painted this spring.

Yeah You say a denali . Heh, that is what I am talking about my Tahoe is white and I have side swipped another vehicle pretty hard and all it did was leave the tail light skid mark down the side . I got some 3m grit and got it all off ..It is a 97, 11 years old no rust paint is still sticking like a tank. I could pry shoot it with a BB gun and it wouldn't dent .. WTF happen GM ? Enviromental PAINT .. I guess paint is supposed to just come off so they figure it better be nontoxic for all the birds that eat it ?

I've noticed paint chips on the front lip of the hood on mine already (small and only a few) but I do a lot of highway driving so it gets punished regularly

I think i have no choice but to take my car in for paint work.I found yet another area under the passenger door handle 3 inches long with absolutely no paint on it!You can see where the overspray stopped and cannot even feel the difference between the 2.Same door that has 2 scratches on it already, and i found another scratch today. This paint has no resistance to much of anything and waxing does'nt seems to help.

I know a bit about painting because i help maintain the paint booths at a major truck building plant. They don't seem to have a problem using stinky emron paints that are nearly bulletproof when they cure.Sorry, but i gotta say i either got a reworked car paint job,or thier qa was asleep at the wheel, lol.
