Checked out a used 09' and had some Q's

I looked at an 09' SS Sedan at a local dealership in MD yesterday, it only had 9k miles but I have some questions about some things I saw.

First there were Continental tires so not stock, which seemed odd for only 9k miles, also I noticed it had a Forge BPV and the hot side pipe wrapped in aircraft tape. There was also a bunch of "white glue" around the hose clamped onto the turbo inlet. Is that normal?

Another thing I noticed was aftermarket wiring coming off the fuse block under the hood but no aftermarket stereo equipment was in the car so I am not sure what that could be.

Any thoughts?

Edit: Here is the car

What?! the continental tires are stock. Sportcontact2's are stock.

Forge BPV is a good piece to have. The guy who owned it must have been a ricer and tried to wrap heat wrap around the charge piping to keep the heat in there, LOL. take that off. You want that air to cool as quick as possible. Is it an aftermarket charge pipe? If not, you can pick one up for $180 from ZZP.

by turbo inlet, do you mean the BPV? that vacuum line had glue on it?

As for the wire, since I said this guy must have been a ricer, Im betting that the wire went to a neon underglow kit or something... what guage is the wire? does it look like a amp cable? 2 gauge? 4 gauge? 0 guage? how thick is it.

Continentals are the stock tires. Sport Contact 2's IIRC.

No its like 16g wire I was thinking maybe neons or something stupid but electrical **** worries me, if not done right on newer vehicles it ***** stuff up. The "glue" **** was on the hose that goes onto the turbo in the front of the firewall the rubber part.

Sorry, I thought the cobalts came with the Michelin's like the HHRs did.

The hose thats wrapped in the tape, where it bolts onto the turbo was where the mystery substance was.

Alright, I'm gonna give you my 100% complete honest opinion here....

WALK AWAY.

If the car only has 9k on it and it's got questionable crap like that on it (that wrap is hideous by the way), then I can forsee lots of stupid future problems. Now, I could be completely wrong about that, but why risk it?

That may be, but electrical issues can suck up so much time. Why pay for a car that is going to potentially sit at a dealer most of the time?

If the OP wants it bad enough (and he should, it's a black sedan ), then go for it. But just keep in mind that the potential of issues is there and there was some reason the owner got rid of it after 9k miles. Leaving behind wire and heat wrap and all

well the wire can be easily removed from the fuse box lol just open is and remove it, and the heat wrap is easily fixed by some aftermarket charge pipes

True. Maybe it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be in my head. Personal experience just tells me that if I see something I have to question, I walk away.

So OP, buy the car and then swap trunk lids with me

remove that tape. and take off the wire and your good. need a closer picture to the "intake tube" to see this glue.

if the charge pipe is indeed cracked, its an easy thing to swap.

Tell the dealership you will purchase it if they put a new factory charge pipe on it, remove the glue or whatever on the inlet, then get the wire out of there. I'd also use a DashHawk or something and see how it runs or if there is a tune on it.

if its teh Vaccum coming out of the nipple on the intake, he might of broken the nipple and superglued it back together and some of it got on the line. Is that the ZZP intake tube hooked up to the stock airbox? Dosent look like the stocker, seems a diff color / material too, ill have to go open up some boxes to find my stocker to compare, but It looks like the zzp intake tube.

It's in Gaithersburg, we looked at it last night so my Dad is thinking about it and might go back over the weekend.

The "white substance" was all over the pipe around the clamp like pictured here:

It looked almost like white lithium grease but it was hard.
