Clicking coming from drivers side axle

Well i got my 09 SS about 2months ago...F*CKN LOVE IT
She smokes the reckless, underestimating trash talkers...
since ive had it new...she always made this intermittent clicking sounds coming from what it sounds like is the drivers side axle or suspension, and i have grown to love this car..i mean really shes soo reliable gets good gas mileage for the power she has so far..im quite impressed with what Gm has done...too bad shes not RWD...(cant have everything)...
Anways took it the stealership..*cough cough*..found out theres a recall out for a charge clamp and askd them to look into this clicking sound coming from drivers side axle/suspension...the service manager walks out n tells me theat he had another SS in there and the axle nut was slowly coming undone!!....

Question is 1..has any1 else had or heard this clicking sound before and 2..make sure to get that recall done, unless your well you now "upgraded" of course
Thank again for reading and sorry for such a long post

Never heard this on my car but a clicking comming from that area is normally a bad CV shaft.

It sounds like the known click...is it only when you take off or downshift to come to a stop? If so..no worries...they all do it. There's a part out by I believe OTTP that will correct it but I could be wrong on that vendor.

1 : I had the clicking on my car. Driver side axle nut needed to be re-torqued.
2 : Never had this upgrade done, but I think mine was outside the range of vin that needed the upgrade.

The ''nut coming undone'' is frequent on many cars. Impreza sti for example.

1. my car is at the dealer right now for this exact problem... although with all the rain they were unable to hear the sound today. Tomorrow morning they will be calling me and letting me know what it is. Consistent clicking or clacking, sometimes worse when hitting bumps. I'll let you all know what they decide tomorrow. Could be another known problem people might wanna listen for.

2. I'll ask if the recall effects the 2010, its really hard to tell. Car manufacturers are generally lazy when it comes to recalls.

I'm at a whopping 560 miles btw. Love me some GM.

My car is an 09 and was built on April 17th 09 ........... it had the revised charge pipe fastener from the factory so wasn't involved in the recall . I'm sure an 010 is fine.

Prozak had this problem.. (the clicking) there's a video of us driving his car around making it click somewhere on here..lol..

The dealer took the axle out and inspected it, put it back in and it stopped clicking. If it were the nut loosinging up, that would explain why that fixed it...

I think that's the one I'm referring to..that's what my SS does..and pretty much everyone with an SS that I know does. It sounds like taking a pen or pencil and smacking it on a table lighly...best comparison I could think of.

Alright guys, I just got back from the dealership. My car only clicks at low speeds over bumps or usually when I'm turning left.

The Diagnoses, I had a bad strut, sping, and... boot. All busted. Awesome. 500 miles, go GM. Be fixed tomorrow. They are also doing a complete inspection of my vehicle and suspension for me.

Lastly I called GM to complain that I've had to have so far 3 warranty repairs in 5 days... waiting for more.. How come when I had a problem with Mitsubishi I got an American but when I spoke to a GM rep. he was spanish or of some other origin?

Because America is a melting pot with many nationalities representing the "term" American?

Meh, I'm just thinking they just might, just might, outsource their phone service help and email support. I doubt its a coincidence someone who doesn't speak very good english just happens to work for a teleservice company. Thats a no-no for some of the older tele jobs I had. Speaking correct english is a must.

I guess I was a little rough above when I said everything was busted. A more correct form would be the sping was put in upside down or something along those lines to cause a problem, which cause incorrect movement with the strut causing damage, when caused damaged to the boot. I think thats how it was explained. So not "busted" per say, but pretty crappy.

I get the same exact thing. I'm having the dealership look at it Tuesday. My Dad says it could be the CV joint, especially because its most pronounced when the wheel is turned. Everyone on here seems to think its the axles. I'm going to print out info for them when I take it there so they can check it all.

The sound your talking about turboss sounds just like the gear engaging. Should be normal, these cars seems to be a lil noisy in the drivetrain area. Anyways if your worried about it get it checked out. Let us know what it is!

MrFitz, a cv joint should go "click click click" They don't usually just click once if broken. To check if its a CV just turn your wheel all the way and drive in a circle at a with a bit of acceleration. It should go "click click click click click" ect ect until done turning. Yours probably is in all honestly just the axle nut or what not.

Who knows since my problem didn't end up being like any of the others described.

If your talking about the drivetrain/tranny noise. Nope.

The other noises you just get them fixed. Like I said, since its worried you check with your dealer tomorrow, hopefully they will have a tech free to tell you if the sound your experiencing is normal. Not like theres a charge or anything as long as the don't work on your car.

Clicking coming from Somewhere

Hey there guys I have something really wrong with mine 2008 t/c cobalt. Okay first of all the brakes I have had replaced 3 times and now I’m waiting on another set. This new set from what I was told by the dealership is completely a new set up from GM. I also was told the only why people are going to get them is by coming up and complaining about the issue. Once you do that they will put u on a list to receive a new set of rotors and pads.

The other issue is this damn clicking sound. I get the noise once I release the clutch and every time I shift into gear you can even feel it in the floor. I even get the noise when I let go of the gas and then give it gas again its very strange. I have had a new transmission installed and new axles the thing is once the transmission was replaced the noise went away. Well about 2 hours later the noise came back. Then they thought it was the axles so those were replaced and nothing changed. Has anyone had issues like this. What should I do about this problem?
