Cobalt ss/tc at Virginia International Raceway

Found this article while lurking around for more possible info on the ss/tcs on google, anyways if you scroll down it claims it beat all these cars at VIR.

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/13/i...alt-ss-turbo/#

Quote - "Since the Autoblog Proving Grounds is still under construction (in my mind), we can't tell you what it's like to drive the Cobalt SS Turbo at 11/10ths. Fortunately, the latest issue of Car and Driver includes a massive comparison test called the Lightning Lap in which 22 cars ranging in price from the $22,995 Cobalt SS to the $282,306 Ferrari 430 Scuderia are raced around Virginia International Raceway. The list of cars slower than the Cobalt SS around VIR tells the whole story" -

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO MR
Lexus IS-F
Audi S5
Honda S2000 CR
Dodge Challenger SRT-8
Lotus Elise SC
Subaru Impreza WRX STI
Dodge Caliber SRT-4
Volkswagen R32
Honda Civic Mugen Si

Sorry if this is a repost. Anyways thats impressive for a failwd econobox if you ask me.

I remember reading this article. I was impressive to see that the SS/TC performed so well.

yep just another reason I picked up my slowbalt, i mean for that 17k I spent I couldve bought a used evo or an sti but we all know they're all beaten so idk, example, buddy bought a bone stock sti with 80k for 15 g's, 2k miles later the motor blows. So hard to find a not so abused sports car these days.

Cool.
I've prsonally beaten 4 of the cars on that list.

-Lexus IS-F on the Mosport Driver Development Track. This car was pretty impressive - We played cat and mouse all day, but in the end I started to pull away
-WRX STI also on the DDT. At the end of the day I was a solid 2 sec faster.
-VW R32 on Mosport GP. The SS/TC had a clear advantage on the big track - I completely destroyed that...lol
-The S2000 is a different animal! Be carfull of this one - with a good driver AND proper brakes/tires they are very fast on the track. I've raced three different S2000's with three different drivers on two seperate tracks this year - beating only two of them. In the last race I was beaten by the driver who had more experience than me on that specific track though.

LOL at anyone who paid the bloated price for that damn Mugen Civic Si. What a bunch of anti-American Honda fanbois.

lol hondas only good for a retail value, these days all cars are reliable so I dont wanna hear that honda bullshit, and to turbo a mugen would be an absurd waste of money, personally they over priced the mugen.

I can't remember where that article originally posted. I've got it in a magazine somewhere. That article was the reason I started looking seriously at cobalts.

Thx, its amazing how well they engineered this car although I would say it doesnt have the whole package like the interior and styling itself, but then again I got it solely for performance.

ya i agree with you..same goes for me. to deliver this level of performance at the cost it is, something has to be sacrificed. ill go w/o soft-touch interiors etc if i can have better performance at a great cost...after-all it is a performance car, not a luxory. and ya the styling isnt anything crazy, like an Evox or something, but its still a pretty cool-lookin car IMO

This was one of the articles that inspired me to buy this car over a wrx, evo, ralliart, genesis coupe, CSRT4.

Similar story for me when I picked up the issue of C&D and read the Lightning Lap story I went :o:confused: and the more research I did on the car the more and more impressed I was by it. So glad I bought one I love it
