Cobalt SS Turbo Upgrades

We'll be all over this car, adding to it what we've already developed on the LNF engine in the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Sky Redline. Of course, our five years of Ecotec Turbo experience, coupled with over 30 years of four-cylinder turbo fun, can only further add to the effectiveness of our approach to this awesome new Cobalt!

Any of these that are in the Chicago region are invited to contact me for great deals on upgrades as part of our Beta program. If you have ORDERED one of these Turbo Cobalts, and would like to be considered for the program, please PM me.

If anyone has any general questions, ask away...

And if you'd like to get on our update email list, just email with 'Keep Me Informed: Cobalt' in your subject line to sales@turbosystem.com.

I think right now most of us are interested in base numbers on the dyno and drag strip.

Most think it's on par with the SC Stage 2 but we'll see.

If you could get your SS/TC on the dyno and post up some numbers to go by we would be very happy indeed.

Is it possible for you guys / somebody else to make a Blow Off Valve for the 2.0 Turboed Ecotec?
The blow off valve would be (I think an atmospheric bov). So is it possible?

It's not impossible, but based upon the engine management configuration, it's not readily feasible...at least not just yet. The new Bosch-based PCM's for the direct injection are very advanced and different from anything before, and they are not very tolerant of changes. As time goes on, and we get deeper into the programming of the PCM's, this may be an option. For now, we will stick with recirculating valves that, while not as raucous, are much more compatible with the PCM.

I was unaware you could order one already. I'm gonna look into it, then I'll send you an e-mail about where you can take me with it. I'm gonna have to at least make it faster than my cobra to justify the monthly payments

Question for you bill. In your opinion. How hard is it to tune the D/I compared to regular conventional fuel injection on say the LSJ? What are the major hurtles of D/I?

The Caliber SRT4 guys have already broken the 400whp mark on the stock turbo. What do you think the max will be on the LNF's stock turbo? 300whp? 350whp?

The primary hurdle to cross with the direct injection is the new controller, which is produced by Bosch and uses unique programming methods and language which are new to the North American market. We are confident that we will have an effective tuning solution available soon along the lines of what we've achieved with the direct injected turbo engine in the Solstice and Sky.

With all due respect to what you are seeing in the Caliber SRT world, I find that number to be optimistic at best, exaggerated at worst...let's let the Inter-smoke-net clear a bit before drawing any broad conclusions on this car.

The LNF's turbo is good for 300-325 WHP. As you might imagine, we will be offering tasty upgrades to improve this!

yes i don't see 400+ whp on the stock CSRT4 turbo. its a mitsu TD04HL turbo (13g). im guessing like 330-340 whp is pushing it to its LIMITS....they are used as an upgrade on saabs and are common for just eclipsing the 300 mark.

The only thing I really want to know is can this car in fact have bigger injectors? I hear all over the place that because of it being D/I there are no possible upgrades for the injectors(going to bigger ones). Is that true?

The only thing out right now is to get a set of custom ones made for $$$$$$$$$$$

Unless the cars that have D/I have bigger ones already (VW 2.0/Mazdaspeed 2.3) and can be swapped out...

Yea....I would think there might be something cause GM has a stage 2 for the Solstice GXP that ups it to 290 hp.

Also, I heard a rumor of the Cobalt coming stock with 290. The HHR with 260. Anybody else hear this?

I am semi-considering the Turbo butI don't know if I can stray from the SS/SC. I love the whine.

400whp run was with N20. 349 was all turbo.

Next question. What kind of fuel upgrades are you planning bill? Will you be offering a higher flowing pump and/or injectors?

What kind of boost numbers have the Sky/Solstice guys been running? Anyone popping there engines?
