dealer said belt slip sound is turbo?
Our hhr ss started making a noise just like the belt was slipping when it would shift gears. For example if we were passing a car, right as it shifts from 2nd to 3rd it would give a quick squeal. It sounds EXACTLY like it is the belt squealing/slipping right as it shifts, it only does it at or near redline. We took it there today to get the oil changed and tires rotated and to get the belt and tensioner pulley checked to see if there was an issue. They said it was normal to hear that sound, that it is the turbo. Does that sound right to you?

I still don't have an answer to what it is. But it is not the turbo...

The bypass valve releasing boost does indeed make a sound similar to that when it vents boost pressure during a regular shift. It's a pretty distinctive sound and is nothing like the typical atmospheric BOV you get on most turbocharged cars.
If it's only when you're shifting and into the boost, I wouldn't be concerned.

Now if what HE is hearing is actually the BPV then no big deal but mine isn't coming from the turbo or BPV.
Thanks for your .02 tho.

im thinking its the belt slipping, when me and my friend are racing each other i can hear his belt squealing when he shifts. i know its not the bpv cause my car does not make that noise. i live in houston we have like 7 cobalt ss/tc in our little car club, everyone with different mods some with full bolt-ons and some just tuned. no one else's cobalt belt squeals except his. he is going to take it to the dealer ill let you know what happens.

I would say keep an ear on it and if it gets worse bring it in again. Its documented now, so if you have trouble in the future because something fails, you can get it fixed under warranty.

I use to do Isshin Ryu. I was a Second Degree Black Belt(Ni-Don). It took me about 6 years to get my First Degree Black Belt(Sho-Don). Then about 2 to 3 years to get my Ni-Don.
At my dojo I was an instructor. I taught ages 4 and up, all the way to Adults. I was inducted into the Isshin Ryu Hall of Fame(I believe that was it) for being an Assistant Instructor(IIRC, need to dig out the certificate). I had competed in the AAU for years.
I haven't trained in a few years. I had to stop because of work/school (didn't have the time).
