Well my check engine light came on last a few days ago. The codes were P0010, and P0011, cam position sensor fault, or somthing like that.
Then last night on the way home from work, while downshifting to get around a car, I broke my shifter cable.
So my question is this; the car is an 09ss with 45k on it. Bought it brand new, and it's still bone stock all the way down to the air filter. The car still has its 100k mile power train warranty. So what I would like to know is if you guys have had ither the sensor problem or. Token shifter cable and did the dealer cover that under warranty?

I'm not looking for speculation fellas. I'm looking for people that have had the same problems on they're cars that were under warranty.
Reason why I ask is on other issues that our cars have, it seems like there's a variable between dealers covering items and not. That being said, if the majority of people have had cables or sensors replaced under warranty, and my dealership tells me it's not, then I know it's justified for me to raise hell for trying to bend me over. That's all.

According to Chevy sensors are not covered.
Your Dealer won't care if u tell them a different dealer covered it. If they refuse to cover it your only choices are to try a different dealer or show them proof in the warantee where it says it is covered.

It could be a sensor which may or may not be covered by powertrain or it could be an engine interal problem which would be covered by powertrain.
As far as the shifter cables go, they aren't covered unless whoever you take the car to feels like being nice. I just looked it up.

I checked the 2009 Chevrolet Warranty Manual and see that sensors are excluded from the powertrain warranty. also, I do not see the shifter cable listed under included components, and so am thinking that it is excluded as well. I'm sorry about this! If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

I just took the consul apart, and it's that crappy plastic clip that attaches the cable to the bottom of the shifter. I was able to snap it back on, but if you move the shifter too fast it falls off. I see twp makes a aluminum clamp. When I call tomarrow if they don't want to replace it, I'll just order one of those up and be done with it.

Oh ok, thank you. Pretty shitty they don't cover the sensor at least. Way to stand behind your product ya know?
That further aids my decision to not buy another gm product.

There is a very common oil leak that can cause the cam position sensor to fail, if anything point out that the oil leak caused the sensor to fail. I gurantee that your car has this leak, every LNF I have seen has it! And oil leaks are covered till 100k!
I heard if you get a Japanese car they warranty everything no questions asked. They will even cover your mods and abuse. And while you wait you get a free hooker to make up for their failure of not knowing exactly what everybody will do to the car.
I went ahead and ordered that new cable clamp so this doesn't happen again. $80 is a good piece of mind knowing that I won't be stranded on the side of the road for that problem at least.
I confirmed this past Sat that those sensors are 100% covered. The P0011 is what I have. It can be either of those 2 sensors, the actual camshaft sensor, or the ECM according to the GM books.
They are not just sensors, they are also part of the variable valve timing system. From what I saw on the sensors they have valves in them for the VVT system, and should be covered.
I was there looking at the book the service department uses with all the part #'s in it which are, and are not covered by the 100k powertrain. Both these sensors, the camshaft position, and the ECM were all covered.

Who did you conform with? Sarah said they aren't. GM website also says no. If you had the oil leak causing the failure that should be. If the sensor just goes bad its not.
If the camshaft phaser solenoid is causing the fault that WILL be covered because its considered part of the engine mechanical system.
The best thing you can do is take your car to the dealership and let them make the call. This speculating could go back and forth until the end of time but the fact still remains.

I'm just saying, assuming the P0011 he has follows the GM book and it's either the cam phaser solenoids, the camshaft sensor, or the ECM, all of which were covered.

As has been stated, cam position sensors are only covered by the 3/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty, and the shift cables are also only covered by the bumper-to-bumper warranty.
They do cover the sensor, for three years or 36,000 miles. You have 45,000 miles, so youre out by 9,000 miles. Its possible that your dealer would goodwill them for you if you regularly get your vehicle serviced there. You cant judge a company poorly because your warranty expired. How long should they be expected to honor the warranty beyond the time the state? Does it make sense to even say "I cant believe GM wont cover my sensor that is 9,000 miles out of warranty"???
