Does the high rise spoiler actually effect performance at all?
i took my low rise off, and did a trunk shaved.

Even if it does anythign as far as providing downforce its not over the drive wheels so... Epic fail by GM. A deck lid spoiler would have looked WAY better. I have a low rise and it just gets in the way of sseing out the back... Baby balt has a big ass haha.
take it off loosing it might be equivalent to a pair of shoes lol.
i know ive seen an article somewhere that stated why the ss/tc hits the wall at 160, was because of the high rise creating downforce. Like someone else stated there have been many threads like this and i know i read it in one of em.
By the way reaper... your sig = false advertisement... I was waiting for the nice boobies to come back and all of a sudden some crazy lady starts going nuts... I didn't know what to think haha... Nice trickery sir.
I assume you're saying downforce kicks in at 80 and drag kicks in at 120. A few of the things I seem to recall:
GM stating that the hi-rise creates significant downforce(something like a couple hundred lbs.) at "high" speeds. If so I would think this a welcome addition to either end of the car?
A member who had experience with his cobalt at Bonneville indicating that "wingless" was good for a few mph but the added instability was "noticeable".
As far as drag racing wingless benefits would seem to be negligible however iirc most of the quickest lsj's/lnf's on here are sans the "shelf" so...
It would seem to be purely aesthetical 99.99% of the time.

I removed my Highrise:
1) For rear visibility
2) Because I do a lot of mileage on the highway at 70-80mph. I assume on the long run I'll save a couple of bucks in gas since this thing must create drag.
3) I'M PLEASED with the look of it and don't regret at all.
The only reason I would keep it is if you do a lot of racetrack at highspeed, where the little added rear stability would be welcomed.

I can't remember where GM released these numbers but i found them posted here with this link. I have removed the hirise from car and know one thing's for sure ...... I attract a lot less unwanted attention from the average sport compact owner lol. I used to get people that would rev at me or do ricer flyby's and the like ..... now without the hirise ..... it seems like i go unnoticed 8)
The optional, massive wing on the car actually does something, providing 23 pounds of downforce at 70 mph and 115 pounds at 155 mph. Top speed of this car (with the standard, smaller wing) is 160 mph!
Read. Wings are not a complete fail on a FWD.

I have a boook I got from gmpp years ago when the cobalt first came out with a bunch of useless facts about the car. The high rise spoiler provides 28 lbs of downforce at 75 mph.
Throw a 30 rack of beer in your trunk for the same effect lol

I personally think the high-rise spoiler is a must
For the cobalt ss turbo! People bitch that the SS turbo is just a cobalt and looks the same as an LT yet they wanna take one of the few things that truly make the cobalt ss stand out! I'm sorry but I bought my cobalt ss and love getting noticed by people as u don't see any other SS turbos anywhere where I live! And I'm not into this whole debaging ****! I love sporting the SS cause I'm proud of it
