Does lowering the car kill traction?

All,

The car is higher in the back and lower in the front to minimize weight transfer during a launch. Does the lowering the car mess with dig traction quite a bit?

I was thinking of lowering the back only to keep suspension travel in the front, but I'm thinking the tires are gonna be spinning

no, they are have higher spring rates, they are stiffer for less transfer all together

lol.

The weight won't transfer as much with harder springs.

So the tradeoff is a bit of a harsher ride. Thanks.

You should also consider stiff struts for the front as well if you're looking for drag. Helps keep the front from lifting and transferring weight to the back.

Yes it does help with traction. If you lower the car your ride gets rougher because the springs don't allow as much absorption which means the weight doesn't go to the rear so easily. If you don't mind I'll say a little about what I've learned about suspension in simple terms. Have you ever played with a spring from a click pen or whatever? Have you ever tried to make that spring jump in the air? Imagine if you had something there to stop the spring from jumping. That would be a strut/shock. The stiffer a strut/shock is, the less a spring wants to jump in the air. Now dropped rear springs are like that click pen spring halfway compressed so the rear doesn't drop as much and keeping more of the weight from sifting to the back. The front springs are also wanting to jump in the air and put the weight on the back. If you change the struts it'll try to stop that from happening. And with a drop I recommend swapping struts and shocks too. So for better drag racing I recommend the drop and struts. Car balance is very important if you plan to take your car around corners nicely. If you wanna know more on suspension just pm me or post another thread on that. I'm on here pretty often now. But... I just know fundamentals and can guide you but don't ask me about different products for comparison. I run TenzoRs on my 2.2, I love 'em, and that's all I've had. You need everyone's review on different products to decide which brand is right for you.

If you're really looking to improve your drag times but don't really want to change anything else about your car (ride height, daily driveability, etc.), you could always do what one of the fastest LNFs on this forum does and make yourself some ghetto drag bags I may try this sometime over the summer.

ive heard about using the footballs, very interesting. Do you just totally deflate the footballs? or put some air in them?

hatrickstu was the one that first started using them. many others have used them as well. i used Junior sized footballs.

-completely deflate them
-jack up the rear of the car
-slide the footballs in between the spring
-fill them up with air and lower the car back down

^^Exactly. and for normal daily driving...just let the air back out and it's like they aren't even there. and then when you need to go to the track pump up as much as you can..usually like 15 pounds is all you'll be able to get in there IIRC

I use them on my super late model , I am sure if I tried to stick one in my balt spring it could work. You just gotta get the right sizes, they make tons of sizes and you can take em out with just a strap..

Hmm...what brand did you go with? I assume by "size" you mean the length between each spiral on the spring?

you can make drag bags work as well but the cost effectiveness of the footballs cant be beat. $5 to cut like .2 of a second off your 60 foot.
