The dreaded porus block bites again

I am pretty sure this is what I have, raced an RT Challenger last week end several times and had positive results each time but low coolant light showed up next morning and oil level was over full, added more coolant and the next day another low coolant light and oil level even higher, I figured it was a head gasket and that I needed studs but after talking to ZZP and searching on this forum I feel its the porus block, I told ZZP I made 25 psi and they said they have done 53 psi on stock head gasket with no problems. I was considering the LDK engine but had a co-worker say why not try some block sealer, so with nothing to loose that is what I tried today. The jury is still out so won't have any results for a day or two.

Ive been wanting to try this as a substitute for a girdled block but im not making enough power for it to matter. Definitely let us know how it goes.

I guess everyone has their preference, The guy at Autozone swore by Blue Devil which is what I got, a fella at work said K&W and a neighbor said Liquid Glass.

Good luck. I hate hearing about this problem. My power train warranty is up next month. 55k on a 09/08 build date.

Back in the day before all the aftermarket small block Chevys came out we used to fill the block up 1/2 way in order to make it stronger. Ran a little hotter but it would take lots of abuse. Now they build hd blocks from aftermarket companies and you don't have to do it anymore.

Right around 120K, it had 115K on it when I bought it. I was pressure checking it pretty good with the Challenger, Speedo was showing 155 and I think it had 10 more in it. Challenger gave up around 140-145

About the oldest on here-47.
If mine had 115,00 on it, and you had the money, I would probably just go with the long block. They are a really good deal for a sealed engine. I've got more than that just in the block and crank in the nova.
Wish these cars resale was better but as it is you really just go in the hole spending money on them. Try your idea, at this point you have nothing to lose, just make sure it doesn't go through your cooling system or you may be fixing more than the motor.

You are young, I drove the car about 60 miles last night and coolant was slightly low and maybe oil level was a tad higher than it was but I expected some air to work out of the system and maybe some coolant leak before it sealed, I put about 100 miles on it today so after it cools down good out will check things again. If ok I have a 120 mile round trip commute to work so I will see how it does next week.

Coolant was down very slightly after 100 mile trip, oil level unchanged. Hopefully coolant is still bleeding air.

How did you decide on a cobaltSS? I got one because I wanted something fun that got good gas mileage while I redid stuff on the nova, and now I can't quit messing around with it long enough to finish the nova. Truck only gets 13 mpg and was tired of putting $4 a gallon gas into it when I got the cobalt.
Not much in common with a lot of the guys on here due to where I am in life. Welcome

The company I worked several years for sold out of state so to find decent work I had to commute. I needed something for gas mileage and had my Corvette which does good but I didn't want to rack the miles up on it and also I had a couple of pickups but weren't good on the mpg's so I bought me an 07 Cobalt Coupe with a stick. I liked it and it was a good car, drove it a year and had about 2 races a week back and forth to work, everyone wanted to pick on it but most all of them got a surprise and the only two that got me were a Mustang GT and a new V6 Camaro but both of them had their work cut out. I could just imagine having another 100+ HP in the same car so I ended up with the SS which had been tuned so I have an extra 150 HP over the 07 2.2. The only thing that has picked on it over the last couple months has been the RT Challenger.

Keep us updated on whether the block seals back up. I know it's been done before

I had a low coolant light when I left work this afternoon, waiting for things to cool down to check oil and see if I need to waste my time putting more coolant in it.

It's supposed to be 09 build date only.
