the few times i have gotten gas there, the kid puts freakin regular in when i clearly asked for premium so i would bitch and complain and get a tank of free crappy gas. so now i only go there for food and cheap ciggs.

anyway, the pumps labeled "up to 10%" is there a way of knowing exactly how much is ethynol?

Not really.

You can ask the 18 wheeler guy filling up the station, he'll know what he's carrying, but that's about it short of testing it.

They're required to post it since it could have up to 10% Ethanol in it, but for the places that don't have regulations stating one way or the other, you could have 0% Ethanol in there one day, 10% the next, and somewhere in between the next...

So your basically saying we need two different tunes. One for gas w/o 10% Ethanol and one for gas that does contain 10% Ethanol?

I've noticed the "May contain up to 10% Ethanol" on a few pumps but not all of them.

Well, if you knew for sure that you've got E10 or not, then that would be nice. The problem is in many places/circumstances you don't know for sure... you just know that you may have gotten some because the sticker was posted.

So basically you're left with needing to give yourself AFR headroom in case you did, but can't take full advantage of what you've got in the tank because you don't know for sure what's in there.

Kinda stinks from a tuning point of view.

This is why one Afr for the lnf as a blanket ratio is not accurate for tuning . too many factors that go info play when tuning diff cars in diff areas

That's basically part of what I was saying originally.

Apparently there's a big presence of E10 out here, so people like me would need to take that into account was pretty much my main point.

Its pretty much the same all over. Again, I made a substantial gain in power going to .88 and the plugs are showing it is burning correctly. I have my scanner logging all 4 cyl's KR and Misfires and show 0.

to the other extent though vince DID to testing at .88 and he had more midrange torque and a better top end going with going with .82 this could be because his gas sucks so he cant actively utilize the leaner AFR without it knocking

Gas here is 10% or less ethanol according to the pumps ( probably between 5-7%). Still running 0.88 lambda on my car. No knock even with 100* temps and a ton of timing. Plugs look normal to me.

Gas plays a major role in these cars. I typically flash cars with a set "base" (I hate using that term but it is what it is) and then adjust from there. When cars come and can't take that tune, I immediately ask what brand of gas they run. For some reason, they always show up at my house on E too LOL. So we head to the local Shell, fill up and the car runs a LOT better.

Im not sure if Vince is a Shell user or not. But Im down to test the AFR's again at another dyno day. Im always willing to try something working better, if it indeed works better

That is strange but if the gas he uses has a higher ethanol content than the gas I use it makes sense. In theory though the wideband should sense the extra oxygen from the ethanol and adjust the fuel trims accordingly.

yea i'm not saying he's right i'm just saying based on his tests it's worked right lol

he's said when tuning me " damn i wish I had the gas you guys run out there, I could do so much more with timing "

from the jist of it it seems his gas is like our winter gas but thats his at the best times lol **** gas will do alot to what you have to do for the tune

Doesn't Cali only get 91 Octane as well? Maybe in WA it's the same deal? Just guessing here for the sake of discussion LOL!

I get knock alot of times on anything other than shell. Even on sunoco I get knock anymore. Used to run sunoco 94 but they got rid of it around here and the 93 just doesnt seem right.
