engine temp
I have 08tc black cobalt and I noticed no gauge for engine temp but its shown on the DIC
.I have noticed from 180 to almost 200 degrees and very hot days recently.Since water will boil at what?212 degrees I think what do you think the general operating temp should be? Maybe this is normal turbos do run hotter from what I have heard but I still wish there was a gauge at least then with a red zone you can tell if you are getting close to running too hot. With the dic only and then warning light hopefully you will know before its too late when the engine is too hot

Besides the system being pressurized which raises the boiling point you also have a mixture of coolant with the water that alters boiling point. The cooling system seems more than adequate for anything you can throw at it on the street and you shouldn't have any problems. Here in the desert under high loads and constant boost going up a decent length grade I've seen up to 207°F with the A/C on and 105°F+ ambient temps. While stopped it will also hover around 200-ish until the fans kick on (as commanded by the PCM). Now if you do extended road racing or other long distance competitive driving you might want to monitor it a little closer.

The PCM commands Low Speed Fans ON under the following conditions:
• Engine coolant temperature (ECT) exceeds approximately 106°C (223°F).
• A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1 310 kPa (190 psi).
• After the vehicle is shut off, the ECT at key-off is greater than 140°C (284°F) and system voltage is more than 12 volts. The fans will stay on for approximately 3 minutes.
The PCM commands High Speed Fans ON under the following conditions:
• ECT reaches 110°C (230°F).
• A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1 655 kPa (240 psi).
• When certain DTCs set

krispy has it right. i wouldn't be concerned at all until you start seeing it go above 230, and at that point it's not yet in a very bad range.
like mentioned the coolant doesn' tboil, if it was straight water it would. but that's the whole point of using coolant, so that it doesn't freeze or boil.
