ESC triggering often
ESC triggering often
So my 08 has 64k on it driving on shitty Michigan roads. When doing some freeway on ramps and interchanges my car keeps triggering the stability control at speeds well below where it did while new. Car also feels like it rolls more.
I'm thinking the shocks are no longer doing their job, plausible theory or could there be something else wrong? Any good way to check?

disable the nanny's by holding t/c button for 10 seconds. Someone on the lnf forums had a plug chip that swapped it so it was disabled every time you start the car.
Ya if those are the stock shocks/struts, they will be shitty with our **** roads. Get new one from ced..or I guess some get koni's.
mines only steps in when im really gettin on it theres a nice highway here with a nice sweeping curve to it when i get in late nights i take it at 80+ and it holds very surprised with the handling, but when the bac steps out to much it keeps it in line. NOT SURE why everyone takes theirs off, isnt that the last line of recovery if you lose control?

The ESC program was written with the stock tires in mind and no suspension modifications, I've got Pedders, a rear swaybar, and Toyo S.Drives. The car is more neutral around corners with my setup and has more lateral grip. Since the ESC was written with just the rear sway it expects the car to take corners at a certain angle with the tail stepping in a bit normally, with a swaybar the tail naturally wants to hang out a little bit more. This change in angle makes the ESC algorithm think that the vehicle is about to enter a spin and it applies braking to attempt to correct it.
Understeer? Let off the skinny pedal a bit.
Oversteer? More skinny pedal.
4 wheel slide? You over estimated your grip and deserve whatever you get out of that one. Can usually can be remedied by letting off the gas and steering out a tad before bringing it back in followed by more gas though.
That's why I turn it off.
Mine rarely does anything. It will flash and I'll feel a tug on some high speed sweepers sometimes, but the thing that bothers me the most is when it thinks my wheels are spinning when I hit bumps. When that happens or when I expect it I'll switch into Competition Mode with two quick presses on the traction control button. It will still intervene if things get really hairy, but it lets you play around a lot before it does.
Four wheel slides are so much fun when planned. This thing is about as fun on gravel as my old 2wd S10. It's really balanced, especially compared to anything else fwd. I could hang the tail out for a lot longer with the truck though.

Mine did it ever since I went to a GMS1 Base File. I believe my CA Bushings are bad on my right side though as the car pulls HARD to the right under a big load and I have some clunking in the front end under bumps. I try to move the CA though and it doesn't budge. I will replace the CA and get back with you as my pillow ball strut mounts on my pedders apparently can't be replaced(tried getting them and pedders said they'd check and never did send me an email back) and they don't seem to be worn out.
When I turned mine off, in the first few minutes of me turning it off, my cel came one. I cleared the codes and hasn't came on since! Is that weird?
it could easily come on more often if your cabs or shocks are done, giving your car a bit more slip angle, and triggering esc sooner. Everyone here who takes it off completely everyday, better hope you don't go to hot in the middle of a corner and esc could have helped you before you 180 into a barrier.
Usually if you are triggering esc you are either driving too hard or not cornering properly..

It doesn't matter how fast or slow ur going, if ecu senses ur gonna go sideways or there may be a chance of going sideways it kicks in, mine goes off going like 40 and hitting a few to many bumps , if car slips sideways a bit it kicks in. It's working fine
