Which is faster
Which is faster
I have a all stock 09 SS TC. My son is buying a 2011 Subaru WRX hatchback. Its rated at 265HP, 244TQ. It has the 5 speed. So what is everyones opinion on which is faster. Both in the 1/4 mile and autocross. We do a lot of autocrossing. He has been using a 07 Mustang GT and we were about equal in most things.
Cobalt should win at both. Cobalt has less drivetrain loss and weight in the 1/4mile, particularly with Gm stage 1.
Autocross - provided your cobalt has LSD, a proper left foot brake will negate the awd advantage and provide faster outward acceleration than the wrx is capable of.

autox the wrx lost to the balt (along with a multitude of other cars) in C&D test.
its a drivers race though. the margin was close on times though.
Quarter he has the edge just on the launch you can make up distance by the end. really close most likely.
wrx is a little softer in the corners than the balt and in perfect conditions the balt has the edge there... little water or unclean road surface and the wrx will start to shine.

SS for the Xcross.. proven 1/4 with minimal mods to be in the low 12's or even high 11's! Driver mod to get that though. The Subi... i'm a huge fan of them, but they have started to lose me lately. Just looked at the new STI a little bit back.. im not impressed. Specially where it came from in its roots.
Also, for the price. SS/TC all the way! To put into the car what the cost difference would be... You have an AWESEOME cobalt that rips! LOL.. you could have any big turbo kit and tuning done that would be bar non to any subi. IMO.

I honestly don't see how the '11 WRX would lose in the 1/4 given competent drivers in both car's . From what i've read the WRX is still trapping 101-102 mph , so with the obvious launch advantage .... a stock cobalt trapping 102-103 isn't going to be able to reel it in .
In AutoX I believe the SS is the faster car ... once you take the launch advantage away from the WRX . Car and driver tested both in a street start 5-60mph.... the SS was 3 tenths quicker (6.0 sec to the WRX's 6.3) . In the 0-130 test the Cobalt went 26.4 to the WRX's 27.8

Trust me! Look it up! The regular wrx is faster than the sti and the cobalt turbo is faster than the wrx. That's why I said with 2 pro drivers the ss is faster. with 2 rookies, the 4 wheel drive comes into play and the wrx would win then.
The SS can't make up for the 60' times a wrx can lay down ..... it might be faster .... but not so much to catch the REX by the end of 1320 feet. Now with slicks or drag radials it would be more even ....but thats not stock vs stock.
There are alot of people that would love to have your G5-GT ...... I wish they would have put a LSJ or LNF in a GXP version cause I really like the way the G5's look.
IDK If 2011 is diff but FWIW..
