First Post! Proud Cobalt SS Owner ;)

Hey guys,

I just bought a 2009 black Cobalt SS (coupe) last week... The thing is amazing! I have been looking around the forums the last week reading up on performance parts and all the kool exterior addons...

So ya... If anyone has any tips/advice or anything you feel I should know, please feel free to post.

P.S. I know the heartbeat rhythm ticking sound is normal for the direct injected turbo, but it also has a much louder and very fast clicking/clanking sound... I was wondering if the fuel injectors or something could be loose, or if it is probably normal? I hear the ticking that sounds like a clock, but there is also a loud clicking sound that happens a couple times each second? Is this normal?

Thanks!

-Paxton

I bought my Cobalt SS from Carmax, and it had brought to me from Texas! I have wanted one for awhile but could find one with low miles...(mine has 25k)

I am not so good with all the lingo and acronyms just yet

I am looking to get white/blueish 6000k HID lights... Probably putting them in the stock headlight fixtures.. I also want 6000k fog lights.. Anyone have any advice on this type of lighting? I eventually will get projectors but for right now I rather use the stock headlights.. I figured 6000k is not too hot?

Modern Performance a good site for my Cobalt?

( Pics will be up as soon as I get home from work this evening )

THANKS EVERYONE!

CEL = Check engine light.

Shop BuyHID's for your HID's (http://buyhids.com/)

Color temperature is not actual temperature. You can use whatever color temp lights you want. I personally like bright white and have 5000k for my headlights. Fog lights are usually towards the yellow end and not the 6k end, but you can do whatever you want.

Down side of buyhids is they take foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to do anything. 6k's are nice for the lights, fogs I'd go with something a bit more blue, but thats me.

Most of the sites here are good for cobalts, but ZZPerformance (ZZP) and Modern Performance (MPx) are definitely some of the top.

You'll learn a whole lot about your car here. Its a fun site and lots of really smart and helpful people are everywhere so you should have no problems. A good thing to try is seeing if any other cobalts in your area have meets, thats where I met some damn smart people that I totally rely on for anything cobalt.

Thanks for the info.. Would I need a whole HID kit or can I just buy HID bulbs and put them in my stock headlights? Probably a stupid question =/

Also, I hope they have Cobalt meetings around my area that would be hella cooool... how would I look lol???

And no I am showing no CEL's... Maybe the engine sound is normal? idk I am having Carmax look at it this week.

u need the whole kit lol comes with ballasts and bulbs, i have 6k in my heads and fogs and i get flashed at all the time but i dont give any ***** lol plus having matching heads and fogs to me is badass, im not a fan of switching up the colors, but thats just me, theres many different little things u can do to ur car to make it your own, dont have to just follow the crowd and do what everyone else is doing. be different and u wont get flammed for it

and personally id go with DDM tuning for HIDs, heard many good things and i have my set through them and ive never had issues, not trying to bash BUYHIDS.com but has some problems with all my sets i got, they have a good warranty system, but like dude said it does take a while

i wouldnt trust anyone at carmax to work on my car, most places like that are a bunch of dumbs, more than likely your just hearing the usual cobalt tick, and sinces ur not throwing any CELs then your fine.

Hopefully they dont screw with the engine or anything,

Ya I wanted the same color in both.... lol =P thanks for info! I am looking at the different kits, hah so confusing.

Will the 9003 HID Kit with 6000k lighting work!? I like the deep blue 12k but will that cause the lights to be very hot or use too much energy?

ahh must be your first car that your into modding and what not, DDM tuning is good place, 30 bux a set for heads and fogs, i think with shipping mine was 81 bux, not bad, try to avoid ebay headlights as you run into problems with em, but u might get lucky like i did, i order projectors with built in HIDS and only had one problem and that was when i rear ended some douchebag truck and broke em lol

12k will have no light output. I had 10k in projectors and they were dim as ****. The higher the temp in k the less light output

The only thing that takes a while is if Mike has to install the HID's into the headlight housings for you.

You do not want 12k. 6k is nice, not too blue and you can still see at night.

Again, the bulb temperatures are not temperatures like Celsius or Fahrenheit, they are only referring to the color.

You need the whole kit. Anyone that tries to sell you a bulb you don't need ballasts for is selling you some junk bulb that has a tint to change the color.

I can hear my evap purge on top of the high pressure fuel pump so there are a couple of ticks going on under the hood that are normal . I'm betting your just hearing one of those . Welcome!
