Fuel level fluctuation

My fuel level goes up after driving the car a bit. Do you see the same? Just curious

Mine will occasionally but not really that often. When it does it... it just does it - doesn't matter if there's a hill, level ground, or I'm turning.

Usually when it happens to me it reads too low and then comes up to where it should be.

Why do I have a "low fuel range" warning light WITH the engine light and I've got half a tank?! Some background. I just replaced the high pressure fuel pump and cleared the codes. Afterwards, everything was fine. My range read 50 miles when I parked on a hill. I later went out and that's when the light popped on. So I went to get gas. I put about 2.5 gallons in at a freakin expensive station (to hold over till tomorrow when I can get it cheaper somewhere else) and the dang engine light is still on!...WITH it saying "low fuel range". WTF?!

GM gas gauges are a running joke, dating back to the 80's.

if you park on a hill, when you start the car it takes a reading, then sometime when your driving it will take another reading. this i what im assuming.

What code?

Mine reads low right before shutoff and high when I first turn her on, I've seen as much as a 1/4 tank change cruising down the freeway by cycling the key

This depends on how you are parked and if you floor it. NBD.

Hey there troyclark77,

Did your fuel range update when you added more to the tank?

The fuel economy data used to determine fuel range is an average of recent driving conditions. As your driving conditions change, this data is gradually updated. Have you been driving in different conditions lately? Just trying to throw out some ideas.

If you decided to get this checked out at a GM Dealership be sure to let me know!

I'd be happy to check your VIN for any open recalls, EmperorJJ1! Send me the last 8 digits via private message and I'll get you more information.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is it not some sort of float sensor that depending on which angle you park at the float will read a skewed amount.

Hey folks,

I've watched the thread continue to grow, and so I've added information about the thread to a document reviewed by our GM supervisors. If anybody had wanted to get this checked out, let me know!
