Exclamation Getting a good deal on one of these due to financial crisis?

Because of the terrible situation GM is in financially do you think it would be possible to get a TC for a substantial amount lower than the going rate now? Im talking in the 18k range. Is it possible or should I just wait until the GTI MK6 comes out in October 2009?

18K might be pushing it id think. you can always go in and see what diounts your able to get, and then haggle alittle more. all depends on the dealership and the salesperson.

You may be able to get a good deal, but I'm sure 18k is out of the realm of possibility. GTI MK VI...why? Are they going to be 18K? Do you have another reason? I'm curious....

I got a 08 tc for 20,582 down from 25,000 on the window. Can't hurt to haggle but dont back down on your price.

Just because with the updated motor they are expected to have a 0 to 60 time very comparable to the TC as well as excellent fuel economy very much like the TC. The interior is also completely redone and it is absolutely gorgeous. They arent 18k but by October 2009 I will have enough money saved up to afford it comfortably. I am in college at the moment going for my masters in Electrical Engineering so I have minimal time to work at the moment.

It is the dealership and not GM that you would have to get that price from. GM is going to make X money for SS/TC (+X money per X option) a dealer sells. The price that you buy it far does not change how much GM gets for it.

See this is the problem. GM is just in trouble now, not yet bankrupt, and these clowns want to offer nearly 10k under sticker...

Imagine for a moment what people would demand if they actually went into Chapter 11...

I got my ss/sc at auction back in spring 06 with 2300 miles on it for 11k. It was an 05.

if you go to a dealer and offer 18k, the salesperson will tell you to leave, and be pissed for wasting his/her time. there's a difference between negotiating, and just flat out fantasy.

I got my 09 SS/TC for 18k CDN out the door....so it's not pushing it. My dad is a GM employee - so we got the employee discount, plus GM gave all employees a one-time $2,600 voucher when they offered employee discounting to the public. Plus $1,300 in GM Visa points. Then two days before I picked it up from the dealership, they offered me another $5,000 off the price if I didn't finance with GMAC - this is no problem for me, I work at a band and get awesome rates. According to the dealer, this sounded like a new incentive they were offering to get their money upfront rather than having outstanding loans out there.
SO, after all discounts, my TC out the door was only 18k - plus I put a pretty big down payment and the car is costing me peanuts a month really.

So 18k isn't unreasonable. Deals are definitely out there.

Oh and yes, my TC is fully loaded - sunroof, LSD, XM... you name it.

Amen, mj... I took advantage of this sad situation too..... 21 800 CDN (ncluding a penalty to break my 06 sc lease) for a fully loaded white 09 TC
Well, it was 22 800 (i but they cut me a cheque for rims and tires cause they didnt have anything that would fit and I was going to walk. I felt dirty... Keep in mind I am an average joe just walking in. And you're right I got a better deal from them if I secured the loan myself. GMAC has stopped all loans beyond 48 months in canada.... ouch....

Yes you can walk away with these cars for a steal of a price. I put some decent money down on it and my payments are 156$ bi weekly!!!! Thats less than my 06 SC..... and less than my 05 Mazda 3

There's 15 fully loaded 08 equinox's on the lot too brought up from the states when our dollar was even... collecting dust. I bet you could get one at 50% off easily. If you're looking to secure a TC do it now... you'll get a wicked price and what you want. Just got to youre bank. Unless of course you're credit is questionable, banks are playing very tight...
