GM's answer to my rough engine running.
GM's answer to my rough engine running.
The problem started about 2 months ago when I would be under full throttle climbing threw the RPMs, as the RPMs reached roughly 5200-5500 my car would lose steam noticeably hard and begin to back fire and pop and bang all the way to redline. I put the stock DP in and disconnected my battery to get rid of the engine light which it did, went for a drive same thing happens everytime in the exact same place. Changed spark plugs, did a compression test, brought it to a buddy to check codes (none). So now it was GMs time since I was due for my power steering n charge piping recall anyways.
GM phoned me back and said they test drove it n went over everything and nothing came up as far as codes on their diagnostics. They then stated that it is a pre-mature rev limiter to protect the motor. I said oh ok, is their anyway to remove it...they said no (of course) they aren't aloud too. The car has 21,454kms on it I've had it for a year and 2months (baby her like crazy) and this is what I get...a super invassive rev limiter 1,000-1,500RPMs from the actual rev limiter which only occurred 2 months ago, when I initially got the car it pulled super hard all the way.
Does anyone else have this problem, is GM serious? The car is not as enjoyable to drive now...

Total and complete bull.
Sounds like its a fueling issue to me. If they got the car to act up when it was there, they should be driving it with the Tech 2 and watching things like fuel pressure and fuel trims.

Gimme a break, that's some clever bullshit they're feeding you. Tell them to fix the problem because other cars don't have this issue, do they have any other cobalts on their lot that you can test drive?
I am not to happy, clearly we all know as cobalt owners theirs no pre mature rev limiter. That's a great idea when I go in on Monday I will ask someone to go with me to check fuel trims if they will do it. Didn't see any other turbalts I just quickly dropped it off cause I already spoke to the service tech on the phone in advance to explain my issue. I'd love for them to drive another Balt n feel the proper power banD
A pre rev-limiter rev-limiter....I smell ****. The closest thing to this the car has is limp mode, and you'd know if you were in that. This sounds like someone (GM or otherwise) is feeding you a severe amount of bullshit to swallow. Who actually investigated this, dealer OR did GM come on-site with technicians?

GM knows better. It sounds like the techs at that particular dealer didn't want to deal with actually fixing the problem...
I think less likely but yeah, that could happen. I think more likely than the sensor being bad is the knock sensors prefer to be a 90* angle. There's two under the intake mani. I saw it in a thread and a tuner discovered this. They didn't have any trouble with that so to speak. Just something they noticed while trying to tweak the tune.
I think coil pack or MAF. I've had loads of issues with my MAF due the wiring harness being absolute crap. I also had a coil pack go out once too though.

I'm no professional. It could be a lot things, including the front 02. I'm just going for what I consider the most likely issue. It seems like it happens under extreme load, so I think it's fire or fuel related. I'd go with fire first because the fueling doesn't usually have issues.

I am not trying to personally talk down to any idiot on this forum, but for **** SAKES!!!! If you take the car down the road before it is completly warmed up and beat the **** out of it by no lift shifting the car will ******* backfire and set a random ******* miss ******* code......*******. how about letting the car warm up first....just saying
