Help please
Hello, i'm new to the forum
i own a trailblazzer SS 2007. i'm looking into buying a cobalt SS. i really want a 2008/2009 cobalt for the turbocharged engine instead of the unresponsive supercharger... and i also really want a 4 door sedan... i have a 2007 Cobalt SS sedan loaded, (leather, sunroof, heated seats, etc.) with 25k miles for 10k...it's a great deal but don't want to buy it unless i know that i can swap the super for a turbocharger. please help me out and tell me if this is possible and if this will gain me the kind of horsepower that the 08 2.0 liter has. thanks for the help!

first off the "unresponsive supercharger" is more responsive than a turbo is so get get your knowledge up. second the 2.4l ss is na and it has a different motor so the power gains are different.
post in the 2.4 section and they should kno more then i do about the sedans.

i deff raced a TB SS in my 06 SS/SC with stage 2 and a 2.8 from a 40mph roll and beat him...and he had exhaust and an intake... but i love my new TC Sedan for sure
A classic example of GM's badging blunder. 2007 SS/SC in 4 door never existed, if you pop the hood on the car you're referencing you'll see a N/A 2.4L motor. You're going to have to hunt hard for a 4 door TC especially due to the low production numbers they saw.
Sorry
my bad, like i said, i'm new. i've been trying to cram as much research as i can in lately about this. they made 500 of the 2009 tc's (4 door) and i found one with 1,500 miles for 20k...is it worth it to have one of only 500 of those cars? haha. i'm thinking it's more practical to buy the 2007 fully loaded local with all motor and buy a turbo kit for it. . . what would you recommend? i love the supercharger in my trailblazer but also love the refined tunable side of the turbo. please point me in the right dirrection for what is best for the 2.4l? am i going to have to do any major fabrication to frame/hood i.e taking out the air conditioning for a turbo kit?
ps. that explains why when i test drove it, it was gutless and i described it as non-responsive... it was non-existent....

get a ss/tc sedan trust me. with the money your going to put into the 2.4, you could have a ss/tc with bolt-ons and gm stage 1 kicking ass all over the street with warranty
and its less money in the long run, the tc is more but it cost less in mods and the lnf will yield greater power easy with a stock block.
If I'm not mistaken ZZP has a 2.4L in the 11s with a turbo swap (that they make available)....now the real question is would you rather buy the car "as is" and pay extra for the SS/TCs LNF motor, electronic systems (ie. no-lift shift, launch control, traction control/stability control - ability to turn them off or enter "competitive mode", Brembo brakes, larger wheels, etc) or would you rather spend less on the 2.4 as is (less is relative, depends on how much a dealer is willing to bend), have fewer electronic systems, 1" smaller wheels, a VVT N/A motor and put substantial work into the motor to build it up
.
If you're looking for the FI platform I'd recommend finding a good used SS/SC or new SS/TC and barter with the dealer. The SS/SC is no slouch (the GMS2 kit gives it a substantial boost in HP/TQ), drvies well, has the awesome whine, etc. The SS/TC comes with more HP/TQ stock, has the GMS1 kit available, has additional features (or some improvements over the offering off the SS/SC) etc. All in all they're both fun vehicles to drive, but it might come down to financials of the situation
.
At the end of the day make sure to pop the hood when looking at the "SS" models. You can't depend on the badging to tell you what's under the hood, especially if they're debadged. In 2008 the SS 2.4L was branded the Cobalt Sport, 06-07 they're branded SS. Hope this helps

if your looking for a DD then take the NA, but if your looking for power get the tc.
as everyone will tell you. you gotta pay to play. the difference is in the motor, your going to have to do sooo much extra work to get the #'s a tc would put up.

thanks perma, it did.
those features sure would be nice to have. my only problem is that the 07 is the color combo i want blue outside with white inside and the 09 is black on black/white(inside)=pain in the rear to keep clean. chances are that i'm going to find maybe 10 in the entire world out of the 500 they made for sale and 5/10 of them are going to be black. maybe one will be white IFF.... i'm lucky. and they are going to ask 27k for it...going to have to trade my friggen trailblazer for it haha. is there any way to build own custom launch control for an automatic transmission specifically the 4T40? thats the only thing that i'd REALLY want. my stock trailblazer, traction control is already annoying and wont let me have fun :P i have to push a button for 8 seconds to turn it off to have any kind of fun haha
which is a better motor N/A heads up a 2.0 or a 2.4? i'm going to build it from the ground up if it's the 2.4 if it's the 2.0 i just have a 10,000 head start and basically just need to do internals...

or i can stop lusting for a 4 door and just find one of the thousands of 2 doors. :P i found a 2009 2 door ss/tc fully loaded for 16,900 from a dealership with 11,000 miles.... they will finance 0% for 48 months too :P haha save the money and buy a stage 3 kit :P does air conditioning come with that?

There is a stage 1 out for the turbo balts that puts down 280 or 290hp, cant remember the # at the moment.

.1) No GMS3 exists for the SS/TC, only a stage 1 (MAP/TMAP/tune)
2) A/C is standard in the SS/TCs
Phew, no more automatic, back to what I know!
the stage 1 do i get to keep my ac? haha if i bought a tc i'd shoot for 350 hp :P enough to whoop ass and have some fun but still retain daily driver reliability? would i keep up with vettes?
With GMS1 and custom tunes (number of options) you still keep your A/C. As for what a custom tuned TC is capable of I'm unsure. I've ridden in one tuned with HP Tuners, kept it's daily drivability (fuel economy somewhat suffered as modifications were made from 3k RPM+) but it was def a hell of a lot faster than my GMS1
.
There's a good number of threads on here from people with custom tunes (Trifecta/HP Tuners/BYT SS Turbo (think I got that close)/Terminator....I'm not sure what the last 2 use) and overall people seem to be happy with them, but I'd research each heavily before making a final decision.
Btw, any potential sales resulting from this pitch, I'll accept a smaller percentage of proceeds as a thank you
