hard braking + high metal content of pads does that. Only thing you can do to smooth them out is to get the rotors machined.

take it to the dealer and tell them you feel a vibration when dlowing down on the hwy. Say you suspect the rear rotors are casuing this because..... and aske them to replace or turn the rotors.

The vibration when slowing down comes from the front rotors, they already have a recall on that
My rotors and pads are ripped to ****. i got about 12,000 miles on it and now when i slow down i can hear the brakes grinding in the back. I took it to the dealer on monday to get it checked out. They told me the pads are going way too quick and so are the rotors. They ordered me a fresh pair of rotors and pad kits. The only thing is (which im sure you know by now) there's a wait on the brake pads because they have to get them from the factory and theres no aftermarket kits. He told me it will be a month for the pads to come. But they might come sooner so im waiting for the phone call. The good news is because its premature wear its covered under the warranty. So no money out your pockets. My advice is to take it to the dealer as soon as you can get it checked out and have them order you some new ones.

lol i won't start anything but i know someone will be behind me shortly to remind u these are performance rotors and they will do that........ever heard of brake boosting? it also doubles as a way to machine your rotors, try it sometime and see how your rotors look after.

btw, my rear rotors look the same, i wouldn't ask GM to replace them unless they cause actual driving problems, otherwise it's just how the rear rotors are gunna wear..........u can lie all you want "duhhhh i didn't stop hard, not even once".....LIER, u don't realize that each time u stop your stopping hard already anyways because of the brake setup on the ss/tc. Beyond that, go ahead and try to lie about u NEVER stopping hard, not once rite? ok ya maybe once......if it was once, was it twice? three times? how many times till u will admit u stopped hard once or twice or multiple times?? Just get used to the rear rotors looking like that for the lifetime u own your car unless u can get frozen rotors, they are hard to groove(cryo treated)

as opposed to running and bitching about the brakes(which suck), i'm just going to upgrade them, no point in going to the dealer and have them throw the same junk back on... may cost me $600-800 but it'll be worth it in the end

Mine looked bad also (deep grooves) within the first 8-10,000 miles and GM wouldnt do anything when I showed them. But I have over 39000 miles and they dont look as bad anymore and I dont have any problems with them. Same brake setup from when the car was bought. Rotors look fine now and I still have plenty of pad left. They did seem to make noise though when I first noticed the deep grooves. Thats just my experience with them

It does sit maybe for 3 or 4 days sometimes but why don't the fronts do that or my other cars that sit, I fix cars for a living cheap ass steel. I looked at a new 2008 with rear disc when I bought my 2009 they looked liked they were in the ocean for years, also known among us mechanics as { Lot Rot }

Yes it is lot rot, its actually because you dont drive the car hard enough. The pads are hard, it takes a while for them to bed in. When you let rust buildup and then you dont burnish it off with aggressive stops you get thicker and thicker rust buildups which become more and more difficult for the pads to remove. The guys that really use their brakes dont get this condition.

The fornts dont do it because they do much more work, even under very low effort stops the front brakes get to temp much faster and see more use.
Your other cars dont do it because they are all older vehicles, older vehicles have different composition to the rotors, they dont rust as easy.

Every GM vehicle short of a new DTS or a ZR1 will get corrosion on the rotors just from sitting a day or 3 depending on the weather.

And for the 9 billionth time, to everyone who needs pads......have the dealer put on pads for a Solstice. If you switch out to HPS's the rust tracing issue will actually get much better.
