Hold on all 09's with RPD

Just got word from the dealer rep that all 2009 Cobalt SS/TC ordered with RPD are on hold. For some this may be old news, but for most people it is new news. I will do my best to keep contact and update the status to everyone. Or, if anyone has any more recent updates, please post them.

I am currently in the process of ordering an '09 with the RPD, so I am feeling the pich of having to wait!!

when i tryed having one ordered back in oct 08, the option was on constrant (order would be rejected). I stopped by by my dealer on this past wed and was told the plant is shut down till feb 1, and they could not place an order now, and were unsure if they would be able to any time before they re-open. she checked in the system and found recent orders with the RPD option.

I just hope they get thier stuff togther soon. I plan on having mine ordered mid-late feb, then it should be ready when the snow is gone.

i think the rpd looks monstrous (sp) and is way over doing it. its an afterthought, why not just a simple interceptor?

I like the RPD, I do think they could have integrated it better, or just did a HUD

for 300 bucks thoe you look at nav on some cars there up to 1000 as an option. you are absolutley rite about integrating it better but IMO its a pretty cheap option mine was 250 with my discount, so i cant really complain because i dont think i would pay 700 plus for it if thats what it would of cost to make it a nav/radio system.

Thumbs up

All good points.. I agree totally that the RPD looks out of place. Would have been much better served being on the center of the dash or integrated into the radio. Either way it is what it is and it's a sweet little component.

On the subject of the blue.. That's the only reason I'm ordering. I have the old Arrival blue on my 06 SS/SC right now.. I wish they were still making that color! But the new blue is growing on me, and it's better than the White one I almost bought. White would have been cool, different from a lot of cars and other SS's out there, but I love the blue, it's just part of my car DNA... Have to have it!

Thanks for the heads up on the March 1st being built, I will pass that on to the dealer rep and see what they say. That's not too far away from this point!

Thanks all,

~Tommy g

Yeah dude I was actually going to put a lilput 7" touch screen in that same spot and try to get a plastic molder to make me the mold that would fit perfectly to the dash and sell em ...

Still working on it ... They need to have a RPD to VGA convertor or someone with 1337 skills could covert the RPD information to a USB port with touch screen access .. WOuld be SWEET.

Sadly this is another instance of GM not being able to pay their suppliers.

on another note, i absolutely love the rpd, i tend to leave it on digital speedo, and its saves me from speeding ALOT. And i like being able to monitor if the gas i purchase is causing the motor to knock and pull timing. I really dont use AFR cause DI is crazy, and the Cam position is something relevant before and after a tune.

Once im tuned i may pay a bit more attention to the additional features.

Very cool info .. I still am thinking of getting one even if it is located in a dorky spot .. Too bad they wernt O.L.E.D. display instead of LCD ... The digital SPeedo would be NICE ... But could other people see it from beside like the latest civics ( we own 1 )) people can see your speed from like 2 miles away in that thing .. I have passed others on the interstate and was like wtf !!! LOL

That would have made it a $1,000+ option though. Think how much navi costs from the factory in other cars... and then to add the capabilities of the RPD? Money money money.

For the money it is just a kick ass option, and the spot really wouldn't bother me. BUT, for some reason they won't offer them on the sedans so I couldn't get one. I tried and tried and the order option wasn't there. My dealer was on the phone for an hour trying to make it happen but they did every thing short of telling him to **** off. They even tried to order it separately but at the time they wouldn't even let him do that. They said they would sell it to me at cost and install it for free. I haven't really checked to see if he could order it or not as of late but I am sure it is a no go.

Damn, that sucks about the Sedans not getting them!! It is a cool option and I do agree that they were just keeping their costs down by not making it LCD, although it would have been cool. I would have paid the extra few hundred dollars still... and also, great point about GM not paying their suppliers!!! lol so very true, but bailout coming through, so hopefully they will get everything rolling... Now I can't wait for stage kit!!
