How to disable TPMS?

Hey all,

Well I am sure most people hate the TPMS so I am trying to figure a way to disable it. I have googled it and it seems I can find a way for every car except a GM. So does anybody know how to disable it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

P.S. Since I am in Canada, is it not mandatory to have tpms like it is in the US so please don't bring this up.

dood, i'll just say it cause 200x other ppl will and u know it..........why?? i love my TPM's even when they flash at me cause it's -20C and the tires dropped a little extra pressure. Even if i had different winter rims and the TPM's were not even on the car anymore I'd still just leave it and ignore the dashlight, it's not that big of a deal. I drove my last car with the ABS/TCS lights on 24/7 cause i pulled the fuse, it was a hyundai and the systems SUCKED ASS.

none that i know of

I just ignore the warning light.

Why? Because I don't want it.

So no fix for a cobalt yet? Does anybody know if its built into the ecu, its a module or how it works?

get another set of TPM sensors?? not sayin u have to, just, throwin it out there....

Yeah I know but they are $200. I would rather disable it and never have to deal with it.

A strip of black electrical tape is fast and cheap!

GTPprix 01-26-2009 09:54 PM

Its a seperate module, typically made by continental on most GM vehicles unfortunately the BCM will still be looking for it and for it to be passing data so removing it isnt an easy fix. I've done some custom BCM programs to ignore them before but never on a cobalt :\

On some cars, there is a constant power going to this module and if you cut the constant power, the tpms never initializes but still works so you never get an error light. I was hoping something similar to this would be possible for the cobalt.

I am surprised there is no hack out there yet another this annoying feature.

Hrmm not sure how that would work in this scenario, if the module boots IE ends up on the bus it will still transmit data. Let me do some digging there may be a way around it but on most GM vehicles its a royal pain in the ass to do anything with I'm sure thanks to federal regulations ;)

cereal83 01-27-2009 09:35 AM

Yeah GM is a pain. I wish they had an option to disable it if it wasn't a regulation in the country. One of the stupidest things they have added to a car or they could have made the sensor $5 for all wheels.

You'd think so LOL

The TPMS has been useful for me when I had a screw in my tire and the pressure dropped down I knew exactly which tire to check and realized the problem so I didn't drive and damage my rim. I would say buy the new sensors and enjoy.

cereal83 01-27-2009 12:09 PM

Well I don't like it and I am not paying $200 for sensors for 3 sets of rims and a feature of the car I don't want to use. Its pointless.

krispy 01-27-2009 12:11 PM

I enjoy the TPMS, keeps me paying attention to tires, I do wish there was an option to turn it off

cereal83 01-27-2009 01:39 PM

Yeah it could be a nice feature if there was a way to turn it off

billwit 01-27-2009 10:18 PM

Couldn't you just have all 4 sensors installed in your spare tire? Your car wouldn't know the difference.

cereal83 01-28-2009 09:52 AM

Doesn't the wheel have to rotate for the sensors to work?

Yep.

Not on my '08. If I'm parked, the sensor works. If I change the pressure while parked, the DIC updates.

I think what you're trying to do is akin to removing On-Star crash response. It's an unobtrusive safety feature, why increase the risk to yourself and other drivers for the life of this vehicle?

Graddy 08-14-2010 06:56 PM

What happened to me

Mine turned off when my car died when i left the lights on (top most switch on the handle). When i jumped it a few hours later the light was not on. Also my car was DEAD DEAD.. If it matters.

importkiller 08-15-2010 10:52 AM

It is integral in the car so get over it you silly canadian.

Force 08-15-2010 10:57 AM

This thread is almost 2 years old... Cereal doesn't even own his car anymore

I guess he found the solution, then. :twothumbs:lol::cssNET:
