Depends on what day it was built on. Some have 0 issues, some seem to have issues

My car overall has been very solid for how badly I abuse it lol...

Shift linkage(super common, easy cheap fix), blown ic (environmental factors) and recently

Service ESC (still need to bring it to the dealers)

Engine seems built like a rock.

This!

Unfortunately mine was built on a bad day, but they were all semi small problems nothing catastrophic. All in all I would say it fits for the kinda car you want, because it's a blast to drive and puts frowns on a lot of other drivers faces.

As far as the cobalt ima say this..... I've taken in it for a couple differet issues, most of which should be resolved if you buy an 08 used...

-ic pipes blown(stock)
-battery died (stock)3 separate times actually..
-transmission replaced(stock, but I honestly think the dealership was just stupid... 22k mi)
-key stuck in ignition(23.5k mi)
-faulty crankshaft sensor(24.3mi)
-knocking noise from engine block(25k mi)~ still workin on this btw...

I'm sure there's more... But I'm drinkin lol
All in all, this is my first new car, and I've had less issues than people I know who baby thier cars, and I've taken mine to the track a couple times and road raced so I'm not really mad about everything, I'm jus takin notes about my warranty issues with my latest 'sports car'

Honestly if I could do it all again i would, except I'd spend my money a Lil more wiser on mods lol

Thanks for the input so far. So all in all it's pretty reliable ? I just wanna make sure since chevy's had a bad rep for while but I know they made alot of progress.

It's in between the SS tc, 4 door Si or the 2007+ se-r spec v's.

I bought mine brand new and i'm at 43k with no real serious issues. If you like working on your car theres a lot of improvements that can be made to make the ss/tc a more enjoyable driving experience. As far as the drivetrain is concerned- it seems top freekin notch and i have not had a single issue and i expect to drive this car hard for a long time through summer and winter.

All I'll say is, the more stock you keep it, the more reliable it is. There's a reason these cars have a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty

GM built the car so that it would last that 100,000 miles on stock or gms1 form. So it should be plenty reliable. Of course don't expect it to last forever if you push it beyond what the manufacturer intended. That's just the risk of modding

Thanks for clearing that up.

I think the car is plenty fun in stock form. Going from a 04 Spec v to a SS tc is night and day in terms of power.

I'd prob do bolt ons and a tune at most.

oh man...thats not even a competition. the si and the spec v doesnt hold a candle to the tc. tc is on a whole different level

The spec v is slower than previous years cuz the added weight I've had both and going from my 07 spec to the 09 ss was pretty much the best thing i ever did gms1 with Downpipe and exhaust no problems minus the headlight leaking and. And a couple recalls 21k here drive the **** out of the car daily not one problem

I have an SC, but I delivered pizza five days a week in it for about three months straight, and it handled it fine, though I wouldn't reccomend it, these cars can take most of what you give to them, besides high revs >.>, and I was far from stock while delivering, only thing that went wrong on my car since the day i bought it was the fuel gauge

Well and broken axles the IC pump haha, but axles was probably my fault

Bought my Sedan brand new in 2010, been tuned ever since 2-2500ish miles, now have a smidge over 13k miles and the only problem I've had thus far is the key getting stuck in the ignition, twice. The only reason it happened a 2nd time is because rather than replacing it with the updated ignition with the mechanism that doesn't allow the cylinder to slam against itself, they rebuilt the original. The 2nd time, they went ahead and replaced it with the update.

Bottom line, mine has been headache free but I don't slam gears like a 16 year old boy racer and I'm not roasting the tires every chance I get. Even with my mods and my ethanol tune, my stock clutch continues to be a happy camper.

Had my TC for a year and two months.. From 55 miles to 12k now and the only issue I've had is a blown intercooler last winter.

The drivetrain is solid... the body rattles like you wouldn't believe though. That's why there's a volume knob on the radio.

I got mine new in July 08. Got 53k miles and its stock other than a 20psi tune around 15k miles ago. I've only had 2 problems. The sunroof whistled the 1st winter when it got cold. Dealer adjusted it and its been fine since. The rear rotors were destroyed by about 22k miles. Dealer replaced pads and rotors, lubed, and adjusted everything and been fine since. Still have plenty of life left. Only a couple small rattles that show up in the winter.

09 here...

porous block (new crate engine from GM installed at 39,000km), clock spring in steering wheel, tire pressure sensor, rear pads and rotors, small paint defect.

All replaced under warranty with no arguments or issues. love the car despite it's flaws.
