Increase HP

I just bought a 2009 red cobalt ss/tc and I wanna do some quick, easy, and cheap tune up. any tips? I'm looking for something that is relatively cheap and easy to install. I saw this G-Force performance chip that supposedly increase 60 horsepower but I'm not sure if it will really be able to do it. Does anyone know if the chip works?

Absolutely not. Im going to start the war and just tell you to research the forum. There is 1000's of threads of people asking what you just asked. Spend about 15 minutes in the LNF Performance section and you will gain a lot of knowledge.

That being said. I will give you the answer that you are going to get from everybody that is actually going to help you.

3 mods for under 1000 bucks total that will net you over 300hp and 325trq.

-Intake (K&N is the popular choice)
-Catless Downpipe (any brand is as good as any i suppose. MPX, ZZP, BADMAB, etc)
-Tune (HP Tuners or Trifecta or GM Stage 1)...dont mess with anything else. Seriously.

PS, Welcome!!!

Don't do chips or canned tunes.

Tune is a MUST for performance due to the learn down feature, you can install bolt on upgrades all day long but you won't get any useful performance out of them until you tune. Go with Trifecta or HPTuners

PSI is typical ricer math. Unless both of your cars were tuned by the exact same person theres hundred of different variables in the tune alone, forgetting things like elevation, gas type, and every car is different!

Regardless of me having a base model, 1 year in this forum has given me a SHITLOAD of knowledge.

edit: and I didnt even mention theres probably not 2 dynamometer in the whole world that read identical.

You probably have a 358ft/lb torque SPIKE haha It depends on the specifics of the tune really

Why not a catted dp? Seems you can make 300 plus with tune/intake and better pipe. Yeah sure its a bit extra in the price and less in the flow dept, but you should still be over the magic number with a legal pipe.

Im at 304..... and they say the stock catless downpipe is the most restrictive part on the car. So if you just get a bigger downpipe with a cat.... uh? idk!! be interesting!! anyone with a tune sri and catted dp at 300?

everything you need for a huge jump is a catless downpipe, a good intake, and a good tune (HPTuners, Trifecta, GMS1) at anywhere between 19-22 psi. (not for sure, but that's generally what most people here run on conservative-ish tunes) and the good thing is, bolt ons for a cobalt a relatively "cheap" compared to a lot of other sports cars, (evo's, sti's, 350's 370's etc etc...and i that lightly) lol. happy modding

I disagree with the intake. You don't need it. I only have a catted downpipe, a ZZP intercooler and an E47 hptune. I have been happy with that for the past year. Putting an intake on there probably wouldn't even be noticeable and it's $250.

That's $200 for the DP, used, $350 for the IC, and $600 for HPT Suite and a tune from Tom. $1150 and the power to tune your own car or buy different tunes from different tuners and play around with them all you want.

THIS!
Get a good Cold Air Intake, catless Downpipe and then go to a good tuner. If you have extra money, it would be a good idea to get the upper Charge Pipe. And stay away fron anything that is cheap, just my .02 cents.

If you can give us an idea of what your budget is, we can direct you better, also as far as brand choice.

and e47 isn't exactly easy to use....e85 isn't readily available to a lot of people. and considering he JUST got the car, he doesn't need to be looking into an e47 tune just yet...let him decide how much power he wants after he gets a good 93 tune first. plus, who doesn't love the sound of their intake

I agree. If he's looking to have a good and reliable DD, I think a full bolt-on and a good tune will do it.
