Interested in Purchasing an '09 SS

Hi guys,

I have an old Crown Vic that I might trade in under the CFC program and I am looking at many vehicles, one of them being the 2009 Cobalt SS. I thought I would come here and ask the experts on what I should look out for when shopping for these cars and how much people are paying for them? Real MPG?

I think the 4-door model is quite the sleeper, but I've heard that Chevy is discountinuing this car. Can I still find this car on the dealer lots? Is there perhaps a locater service online where I can check how many Cobalts are sitting on dealer lots and where?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

I have the coupe 09 SS and real world mpg for me is about 26.5 average. Thats mostly country driving with little stop an go and using the boost for every 0-60.

You can get one for under $20K pretty easily I would think. I'm getting between 29.5 and 32 mpg mixed city/highway. I baby it...except when it's necessary that I don't.

Yeah only the '09 year had a sedan offered. I agree they're quite the sleeper. I bet you could find one.

If you go to a dealer, they have a locator program in their system most likely that can find something like what you're looking for. The ones I went to all did.

Real life mileage for me is around 24MPG all city and stop-go with spirited driving at least once a day too . Highway mileage can be in excess of 30MPG if you're good with the throttle. With a light tailwind, I've cruised for a while in the upper 30's or 40's.

The cool thing about these cars (and a big part of why I bought one) is because they're so good as so much. They've got great handling, braking, and acceleration in an economical package, allowing you to get great gas mileage while still romping Mustang GTs and stuff.

"That's right Mr. V8... not only did I beat you but I'm also beating you on gas too."

Just bought my Sedan 09 Cobalt SS/TC and am loving it. I came form a GTO and feel this car is underestimated.

I would go for the Sedan as I feel it is a little classier and more subtle. I great car and fantastic on gas. I've only had it a few days but am getting over 27 MPG just driving around and going everywhere I can. It feels nice and is quite comfortable. I got mine fully loaded for 18.5k +taxes and such.... I think I walked out with it for 19.3K. Not too shabby I think.

I would say BUY IT!

Most definitely get the LSD option, otherwise you will be spinning like crazy.

I paid 20.5k for mine out the door, but it has every option except for the RPD.

I'd say get the G85 package on it. That's the Limited Slip Differential (LSD).

The RPD is cool, but you can't get it on the sedan for some reason. That's okay though. If you're really wanting a performance screen/gauge cluster then the aftermarket's got some very nice stuff too.

What does RPD stand for?

I would definitely get the LSD! How is the torque steer on these cars?

Anyone know the manufacturing ordering code to get these particular wheels on an SS?

Sticker price on the car was $25,860.

I wouldn't buy this car without the LSD. Other options that are nice are the sunroof, USB port, sport pedals and I think Bluetooth is an option.

Are you guys getting the GM employer price on this car?

From my understanding you can stack the GM promotions on this car, including GM Employer price + GM card rebate.

RPD: Reconfigurable Performance Display. Instead of having a boost gauge on the A-pillar, there's a screen there instead that shows different things depending on what you have it set to. (Boost, spark advance, temps, cam phasing, speed, lateral G, fuel pressure, air-fuel ratio, etc).

Torque steer is present, but they've done a pretty good job cancelling it out for the amount of power the car puts out. I don't even know if I fight torque steer anymore. I think I got used to it or something to the point I don't even notice it anymore.

Yes.

I don't have my paperwork in front of me but I got the instant $2000 off of the car, $4500 for the CFC deal and an additional $800 off for some dealer discount. Came down to about $18560. Add the tax and I was off in my new cobalt ss for a little over 19k.

DO IT!
