Last day to order? 2010 SS/TC?

Does anyone know the last day to place a factory order for the 09 SS/TC? Any idea if there will be a 2010 SS/TC? I don't have any connections at Lordstown so it'd be great if anyone can fill us in. I heard sometime in April or May is the build-off date for 09 Cobalts. I've been a long-time Ford buyer/owner and I am impressed with the Cobalt SS/TC.

might already be too late. I heard they weren't making SS/TCs right now and the cutoff is coming real soon. What's so special that you need to order one? Tell me what you're looking for and I'll tell you where one is!

Most sitting on dealer lots have been test driven. Some prefer ordering to ensure they get a car that's never been beat on at all. I picked my car up with 6 miles on the clock, including the PDI and the factory miles.

I heard 3 different cut-off dates from 3 different dealers.

I'll send you a PM with details.

Sometime in March/early April. Only date I have is April 3rd but that is for fleet and non-retail (I'm not sure if retail; i.e. consumers; would be sooner or later).

2010 Cobalt production starts Jun 15 and the SS/TC is still planned to be made. Not sure why people keep saying otherwise.

Agreed. Peoples' statements, with regards to early end-dates, are confusing me. Why would they prematurely stop production when they don't intend on releasing the Cruze until January of next year?

My dealer told me the cut-off date for factory orders was first half of April... forget the exact date he said.

I'm really serious about purchasing one of these cars, however I won't be able to do so until at least mid June, most likely early July. I'm not to picky about color or options (except must have LSD) and I don't mind getting one from the dealer without a factory order.

Am I ok with that time frame?

From what I've been seeing here is that the 2010 will be the leftover 2009's that don't get built in the 2009 model run. Which I know for a fact happened with the 87 to 88 Monte Carlo SS's. So I know this can happen with the Cobalt. All the 1988 MC/SS's are actually 1987's but only the ones built June(ish)-Dec

So they plan on building these cars until the parts run out. which I gather will take them past June or July maybe Aug. then they will re-tool the factory to start building the Cruze which I'm sure will take a little bit (month or two??) and according to RYEDOGGRACING who says he works there (no reason to doubt) said that they were told that the Cruze will be in showrooms by 1/1/10 which seems like a reasonable scenario if it is taking them over 3 months to build my 09 SS

there is huge misunderstanding with everyone on this site ever since GM's announcement about their performance division

that is an excellent explanation. that seems to reconcile the seemingly contradictory pieces of information. thanks.

Well they arn't going to be changing parts (maybe a few parts updated to fix warranty issues), but really the only difference between 09 and 10 will be build date.

It has nothing to do with their performance division news....it has to do with one of the forum members that works for the plant in Lordstown saying they weren't building SS's right now, unless they got xx number of orders.

Has anyone seen or heard of a 2 door cruise? I can't believe GM wouldn't have a 2 door compact car in their line up for 2010, the Aveo isn't gunna cut it .

They call it a 3 door, but who is really getting in through the trunk?

edit: I think it might only be available in Europe

You do know that for a proper PDI to be done, it has to be driven for 10 miles. So for your car to only have 6, it wasn't driven for the PDI process. Another dealer cheating GM

I picked up my factory ordered Mustang with less than 2 miles on the odometer. I told them not to do the PDI.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum - it has been very helpful. I'm thinking of picking up a new cobalt myself.

I wasn't quite ready to buy but it looks like my choices may be diminishing.

I'm looking for an 09 with:

Exterior:
Silver Ice Metallic (1st choice)
Summit White (2nd choice)

Interior
Ebony/Ebony (1st choice)
Ebony/Grey (2nd choice)

Options:
LSD (G85 option)
performance display (UAF option) --
I also DO NOT want the high-spoiler wing.

I'm in Dallas, TX - but don't mind driving to pick one up that maches my choices.

I test drove a black one but the best they could do is 22K OTD. Is it reasonable to get one like I listed above for closer to 20K OTD?

Thanks!

Sounds like my new car...
The high-rise really isnt' that bad, took about a week, and now i actually like it.
It's much easier to wash, and it helps keep people's high-beams out of your eyes.

I eventually settled on a high rise and was immediately regretting it because I thought it was too garish, but after driving a low profile Cobalt I've found that I like the view with the high rise and the whole "it blocks out high beams" thing is clutch.

If I had to make the decision over again i'd still get high rise just to block effing SUV headlights.

The D81 aero wing (or what people call the high rise) suits the lines of the Cobalt perfectly. The low-profile or no-spoiler look does not complement the lines of the car. An example of a car that would look garish with a high-rise aero wing but clean without a spoiler is the S197 Mustang.

I disagree.... the high wing seemed to completely block vision out the back window when I test drove it. Also, why is there a spoiler for a FWD car anyway, it's not like you need to keep those back wheels planted! If anything, I'd guess that the 747 attached to the trunk robs you of a couple mpg.

my $.02

On another note, can you swap out the high wing for a low rise spoiler, do the bolts match? Or do you have to swap the whole trunk lid?

I got an offer for 20750 + ttl for a silver 09 w/ LSD and the display, but it has the wing.

The rear wing is useful for front-wheel drive cars for applying downforce to the rear of the car. Your driving wheels are at the front, but that doesn't mean you're exempt from the laws of physics and aerodynamics at high speed.

The rear wing didn't seem to block my rear vision and what's behind you is really inconsequential.
