Am I the only one here to think that the 2nd gear is pretty lazy? I mean I know that 3rd gear is strong considering a pretty tall gearing, but I really think that 2nd gear should hit harder than that.

Is there any sort of torque management in 1st and 2nd gear to tame things down a bit?

Not that I know of, I hit full boost in 2nd. I think 2nd is pretty good.

Depends what RPM you are at...if you are in the low RPMs, it takes a while to get wound up...but I would not call wheels breaking loose at 5,000 RPMs in second lazy...

I think it really depends on your expectations. These cars are quick, but after driving my 10 sec Mustang around for a bit , when I get back in the SS/TC, it feels really damn slow. But after driving my Civic Hybrid for a while and then getting back in the SS/TC, it feels fast as hell!

It's all relative.


Are you having traction control kick in at all? That would kill your acceleration. Try turning it off and see if it is any better.

I find second gear pretty good, I can actually get traction in it. It's lazy below 2000rpm, but from there it pulls harder and harder the higher the revs get...

Only gear I feel is lazy is 4th, but by the time you hit 4th you're doing 100+ easy. If you manage to get one of your freinds to race have him run ahead of you and watch your front end. Every shift will pick your nose up higher and higher. It's simply ******* awesome to know that each shift you're not losing power. A lot of people like to say that a V8 will take you in the long, though you'll win in the short. I don't think that's true of the tc one bit.

3rd and 4th both aren't good for rolls, 3rd gear is alright IF you had a race near the top, but that'd put you around 70-75mph for your start, who races from a 75 roll??? lol

personally, i'm not doing more than a 40 roll, in any car, and that is a great spot in this car



as far as the gears pulling, both 3rd and 4th are strong, 3rd being more so but 4th keeps pulling nice as well

You hit the nail on the head. There is a ton of torque management in 1st and 2nd gear. In 1st the ECM allows only 50% avaliable torque to be appied. In 2nd the ECm allows only 66% of the avaliable toque to be applied.

Even at 66% torque applied you can still break 2nd gear loose almost all the way through the gear up till 3rd. So, how do we get rid of the torque restriction and what do we do to prevent the tires from breaking loose a butload after that?

What happens when you hold the traction control buttin in for 5 seconds. I heard it turns off a good amount of the cars computers. Would that turn off torque control in 2nd gear?

The car is NOT limited to 66% stock in 2nd gear. It only has a limit in 1st gear and is anywhere between 51% and 64% dependent on RPM. Below is the stock torque table:

I don't know what you guys are doing to get a stock ss/tc to spin the tires in second gear. I feel that first gear is lazy but 2nd picks up quite a bit....even though the tq management statement that was posted above states that 2nd gear has 100% it sure doesn't feel like it. Third gear has more pull to me.

If I lug the car in 2nd and let the turbo spool I may get alittle tire spin at 2500-3000rpm.





I also noticed with this car that the longer you are on the gas the faster it feels. It's kinda hard to explain but say I launched the car from a dead stop and ran it though the gears. Then I ran the car from a roll at 40mph in 2nd or 70mph in 3rd it doesn't feel nearly as quick pulling through the gears as it did from a full 1/4 mile pass.

2nd gear has minimal spin if any for me. At the track, I can easily tell that 1st gear has the torque management...just feels like it is holding back a lot. 2nd seems good, but as slowstang said it doesnt feel like 100% has been let out of the bag. At both the track and on the road however, 3rd gear seems like the car is finally letting all the power out.

If you've got the winter tires on, it might be because TCS intervenes a lot.
Turn it off, hit wot and it'll slip like crazy, you won't be going any faster.
I have no issues with 2nd gear, as a matter a fact I find that it's the quickest gear.
But I'm definitely not getting the most out of my car's first 3 gears with winter tires on it.

be happy that you have torque limited in first. that's one of the things that helps the tc get off the line. in my sc, i can't go much more than half throttle in first without roasting them. then if i shift fast into 2nd the tires will roast all the way up to 3rd.

as far as the car feeling faster from a stop, it could be because you're running the car all the way up and keeping the rpms up, so it's higher in the powerband. start a roll at higher rpms, hit the gas, it will be the same. but if you're starting from 35 in 2nd as an example, or 60 in third, you're not at the ideal place for best acceleration.

Well, maybe there's no torque restriction in 2nd, but in my opinion it feels like it. I mean from 40 to 65 it's just not as quick as a 230-240whp car should be. I used to own a talon tsi with about this amount of hp and it was clearly faster. But 3rd gear is another story :P, love that top end.

my 2nd gear seems to be lazy some days too. even when I first drive the car, even after its fully warmed up it just drags fora while. it seems i have to be driving for 10 min to get my full performance.
