LNF valve gunk pics

It's all fun and games until you look at your own valves. What a horrible sight. This is at 72k miles. No crazy misfires just light on cold start up.
I still wonder what kind of air Flor increase we see when clean.

What's pored through the intake does something but what's in the tank doesn't help clean the valves because the fuel never hits the valves.

I'm at 17k miles... Maybe I can save myself from this fate still. lol

The kit is $350 correct? As much as I want mounts and CAB's now, I'm keeping this car for the long haul.

I have seafoamed about 5 times in 5 years.
I was really amazed at how much oil was in there. The walls were wet in oil. Pisses me off

lol I am hoping they look better than the ones yesterday; I have never seen one that bad, but also I have never seen a PCV valve fail; that may be a new wrinkle...

amazing the difference it made in fuel mileage. It improved double...

Well improved fuel mileage would be nice, I get close to 400 kms a tank and I don't beat on it that hard.

Will this much walnut do any damage? Its sticking and tough to get out. Also I fucked up and got coarse instead of fine. I got 99% of it out

It shouldn't. I'd grab some cleaner and spray that in there and then towel the port walls and brush the valves. Then either a long pick or long nozzle of compressed air should get it out. I had a few pieces left in mine that kept reappearing. I'd really try to get most of the buildup off of the walls though. I was surprised how much crap I could scrape off the side. Remember to get a pick on the valve seat that is not visible (front of car). I pulled a lot of crap out there that the walnut missed.

Here is mine at 30k miles before

the reason walnut shells are used is that being wood it will burn harmlessly in combustion and cant hurt the pistons or cylinders, or valves. Its not very abrasive which is why it is used. No chance of "peening" the metal. When you finished, did the car start up right away or take time? Did you remove the spark plugs to crank the motor to get any excess that has fallen through? Did you use a vacuum simultaneously?

Oh and it is essential that the media is kept very dry and there is no moisiture in your air system. I am blessed with a very good air compressor system in my shop, even though its a relatively small holding tank.

since i didn't want to drag all my air compressor stuff out, i let mine soak overnight in seafoam, then used my gun cleaning brushes and swabs and a pic to clean mine. Worked out really well, not quite as good as walnut blasting but not as much mess to cleanup either. Powell system is installed now so hopefully no more worries. Can't believe how bad they looked with 32,000 mi.
John if you read this- found a use for 2 old sbc rocker pivot *****- put them between the separator mounting bracket and the head. Got the bracket away from the radiator hose. Didn't have 2 spacers the same i could use.

I can't wait until spring, nice people are getting good results from doing this. Definitely gonna get good before and after shots with my car. Wired The after shot looks like its new, notice any fuel mileage improvement?

Lol that works. you must not have a stock air box? I have slotted the brackets now per your suggestions and it installs a lot better. thanks for the updates, i think you should buy a 25 dollar 7 led borescope off ebay and check it out lol thats my plan

Im still running the stock box sometimes and the slotted bracket is much better.

My fuel mileage did go up a little bit not a ton. I have other things going on that'd make it tough to pick out any improvement.

excellent! You and Nova are a big help.
If the car is extremely coked ( sad panda this car yesterday was bad) then fuel mileage difference will be greater. I am not sure if the fuel injectors are negatively affected by all the carbon build up, they inject below the inlet ports. That I cant speak to at the moment.

And also, piston ring damage? leak down tests will tell the story, sometimes its hard to say to a guy " I think your pistons are shot". you know what I mean?

I learned so much today. I'll post tomorrow some tips in the main gunk thread.

Got all done. Started car. Choke girgle backfire. CEL. ESC. Traction control. I about cried. Took forever to connect Torque to car. Turned out it was pedal and tps code. I clipped the plug but not the gray tab. It had Popped out. All better. She purrs and throttle response and horsepower seems to be better.

Now to save up for Powell oil separator. Thanks for the help guys
