My BlackStone Lab Report
I had a blackstone lab report done back in May, dunno why it took me so long to post it. Anyway, they said everything looks good except for some fuel in my oil and high levels of potasium.
The oil I sent in for the sample was in the engine for a long time, 9/24/11 - 4/29/12. At the time I was taking mostly short trips to the bus station with the car and lots of cold start ups over the winter because of that.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or opinions on this report. Thanks!

I don't have the report anymore but, when I was using full synthetic in my 1995 diesel Suburban I went 15,000miles and the report said I could go at least 5,000 more haha.

I was really curious about the potassium and fuel in my oil they found and was wondering if anyone has seen this with our engines.
noorjariri: The standard oil test is $25. I had some additional test done that lets you determine if you are going too far on your oil or not and IIRC the total was $35. I'll be sending my oil back in again when I do my next oil change but doing the standard oil test.

lol...too much fuel? what tune does the OP have? And HC buildup could be the reason for the potassium, dont know for sure need to figure that out...thanks for posting this...ps I am big on extended oil drain intervals, but I would like to see a test on this same car after using low ash euro spec mobil 1, 5 w 30

My car is pretty much bone stock. I put in a catted downpipe but no tune yet. I'll probably be hitting up some suspension work first. I have Mobile 1 in there now and will be getting re-tested when I am ready for a change. It's going to take a bit though since I've been riding my motorcycle for much of the summer weather.

so is it better to change the oil early (like 4000 miles) or better to run it closer to the said '12000' miles? IMO you should atleast change the oil filter every 4000 and i usually change the oil right then too but i've also been hearing with synthetic its somehow bad to change it too early?

In my cobalt I just switched from Mobil 1 to four quarts of Brad Penns FSGF 5w30 and one quart of their grade 1(high zinc) 0w30

So I sent in another sample of oil:
From this report it looks like I may possibly have some coolant in my oil. Right now my car is up on jacks for a few weeks while I do other work on it so I'll check more in to this later. On the good side the fuel reduced thus solving the viscosity problem. I am pretty sure that this was due to last winter, I had many short trips in the cold weather each day. I'm not sure if these reports are making me paranoid or what... Heh.

Mine showed a bit of gas in my oil but they said it could be due to the car idleing. You might have a headgasket issue but its not much cause for concern yet

I got my container from them about a week ago, and I'm gonna send my oil in.
I think that everyone is going to have some level of coolant in their oil, I don't see there being a vehicle that has ZERO coolant in the oil. I would say that as long as you're keeping an eye on your coolant level, you'll be fine.
On the plus side, you have way less Calcium than average! lol
^This. That's what I"m getting at. As long as you keep an eye on it, you'll be fine. Not cause for concern until you start to notice a coolant loss

It seems to me that our lnf's seem to leave a little more fuel in the oil from blow bye then the average car. It almost seems like they all may leave a bit more fuel then we would like to see. When i changed my oil for the first time on my lnf i swear i smelt a faint fuel smell. Nothing major... but still there...and my car only had 10,000 km on it. Thats like 6000 miles. I now only have 27,000 miles and it runs strong every day.

I would say that all lnf's would have what some people would call excess fuel in the oil after a good oil interval. Correct me if im wrong. But I was always under the impression that a tubo car had a little more blow by the rings. Sort of nature of the beast sort of thing.

Yes, that was the case last winter. My situation has since changed and the second set of lab results are based on much longer run cycles and some track time as well resulting in less fuel in the oil, but there's still some there.
