My Trip To NY City For Red/Ebony Interior Swap and An RPD!!!!
My Trip To NY City For Red/Ebony Interior Swap and An RPD!!!!
Hey everyone!!!
Guess what.......I FINALLY GOT THE RED/EBONY INTERIOR IN MY COBALT SS TURBO!!!!..........******* EH!!!
Ill start from the very beginning and tell the whole story. So when i bought my Cobalt SS Turbo last February there was three things that i wanted to have. 1) It had to be Black 2) It had to have an RPD 3) it had to have the Red/ebony interior. Well i only got one of the the three of these "must haves because the perfect deal came up at a dealer in Toronto that i couldnt turn down.....it was a Super Steal. So i did without the RPD and the red/ebony interior and instead got the Black/ebony. Over time i came to actually really like the black/ebony but then two months ago it happened. I got a chance to ride in a 2005 Mazda RX-8 that had a two tone black and red interior........I LOVED IT!! It was so cool and interesting. When I drove around in it, the colors made the driving experience so much more exciting. I knew then that I had to get the Red/Ebony interior for my Cobalt SS because the Black/Ebony became boring to me after riding around in that RX-8.
So i put an add up looking for the Red/Ebony interior and MANY of you people doubted my chances of finding the Red/Ebony. Some of you were rude and even a few made false deals for a swap. After 2 months of my thread being on this forum I was shocked to see one day that i had a reply from my old thread that i though was dead and over with.
It was from a guy named Christian who lived in Yonkers New York
........he had just bought a 2009 Cobalt SS that came with the Red/Ebony interior and wanted to swap for the Black/Ebony since he liked that color better
.....but heres the catch.......
He already had the Black/Ebony interior from his old 2009 Cobalt SS Turbo that had been damaged and was sitting at a body shop waiting to be sold by him. Sooooooo Christian COULD have just swapped the interiors from his old Cobalt SS to his new Cobalt SS but he didn't because he wanted to help out a fellow member on this forum who was VERY VERY eager to get the Red/Ebony interior. I know.......what a nice guy eh!!! rare for this forum indeed. After talking to him on the phone many many times and emailing him i couldnt figure out a way to do the trade without me just driving to Yonkers New York from Ontaro Canada.
Im not gonna lie to ya.......I was a bit skeptic about driving to New York City and meeting some random guy to swap interiors with. Its not that i have little faith in the human race but after been SCREWED OVER by 2 MEMBERS ON THIS FORUM........I had to be careful. After constant feed back with pictures of the interiors we wanted to swap I knew that Christian was for real......
So..........I packed my bags and made the trip south!!! I had to pull my baby out of winter storage which almost killed me to do but an opportunity to get both an RPD and the Red/ebony interior doesn't really come by too often so I had to do it. It was an 8 hour trip from Orillia Ont to Yonkers NY and i was nervous about the weather as well as driving on summer tires but i managed to make it there in one piece.
When I met Christian he couldn't have made me feel more at home......within five minutes of meeting him he gave me stainless steel cobalt ss door inlays that look amazing for FREE!!!!
Thats right for FREE......as well as a Hahn intercooler pipe, an RPD for FREE!!!! Wait a second?........I thought he was doing me the favour by swapping me interiors? well you see my friends......Christian felt bad for me driving all that way( which he shouldn't have) so he felt not only should he give me these extra things but he would also let me stay with he while I was in New York and show me around.
..........You just don't meet people like this anymore..........
Christian is originally from Italy and Ive always been told that Italians are very very hospitable and he is no exception to the rule. I met his family and friends and they treated me like I was on of there own. They asked me many questions about Canada and made me an awesome true Italian dinner.
And I thought that Canadians were hospitable........lol!!!!!
Anyways the swap was done by a friend of a friend and he did a wonderful job. I couldn't be happier if i tried, it looks great.
During my Short stay in New York City I notice a few things thats different from back home......
1) Your roads both in New York City and New York state are Horrible..........serious! I let Christian drive my Cobalt SS Turbo to try out the GMS1 and he noticed that my car was a lot less "shaky" and felt "tighter". I said that it was probably because of the ROUGH roads in New York, holy **** they are bad.
2) New Yorkers are crazy drivers.......i noticed that every 4th vehicle I saw in the city had been side swiped and was beat to ****....... like cars that were only 2 years old or so had the fenders smashed to **** hahahaha
3) I dont want to say Americans, but New Yorkers are a least are ******* rude. In Canada people smile and say hi to strangers......in New York, people would barely give me eye contact and talk thru a frown! What a way to live Geeeeeez!
4) How do you people eat the **** that you eat. I was only 20 miles into New York state when I stopped at a Tim Hortons to get a coffee(Which by the way is a major Canadian chain). I order a medium and it was the size of an Extra large in Canada!!!!! Your proportion sizes are crazy and the fast food you guys eat is ******* nuts hahahaha
(Oh and your Red Bull SUCKS compared to Canadas and beer)
5) Whats up with the ******* Toll Roads everywhere???? Where im from (save for HWY 407) your Taxes pay for the ******* roads?????
So Christian and I went to the autobody shop to get the RPD and other car parts from his old Cobalt SS Turbo but sadley it was closed
. I was leaving that day so Christian said he would mail it to me when he got his triple pod gauge installed on his new Cobalt SS Turbo. When I made the 8 hour trip back home I had great weather and couldn't stop looking at the seats and all the new Red and Black in my car.........I LOVE MY NEW INTERIOR!!!
Honestly I owe A LOT to Christian. It was very refreshing to meet someone who had so much knowledge and passion for his Cobalt SS Turbo. Seriously guys if you have ANY questions about buying Cobalt upgrade parts, then you gotta talk to Christian. He researches and compares parts and just knows alot about this subject. Oh and the best part is........he loves to help other Forum members trying to build there dream Cobalt SS like me!!!! His forum name is AyrtonSenna.......so look him up cause he's the man!
In closing......Id like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Christian for helping me do what others on this site said wouldn't happen. I searched and search like crazy but finally now I have what I wanted on my Cobalt SS and best of all, I made a new friend while doing it!!! Thanks Christian for you Hospitality and inviting me into your home!!
Here are some pics of my car that i took this morning. I got home last night and drank A LOT of beer with my friends to celebrate not getting murdered in NYC so i was still half asleep when i took then this morning hahahaha!!!

P.S. whats up with the little high school Ricers in New Jersey wanting to race me in their beat up Civics Hahahahahaha

Haha gota love New York. Fucked up thing is we pay Tolls and the roads are still ****. Everytime I drive from Kentucky to Rochester, New York...the only place I pay a toll is there. And they are the worst roads. I miss New York
Good story and nice swap out. Yeah I've never been to NYC even though I'm only 2-3 hours North, but a few come up where I live for their weekend house and most of them aren't kind. The more upstate NY you get I think the nicer the people are. Now what interior did you have before. The grayish and black?
Hey dude looks good. I'm glad it worked out for you that well. Now you just gotta get that RPD wired. There is a thread on it somewhere on here... LINK
Just so noone give you any more crap.
Just so noone give you any more crap.
i had the Black on Black interior before and over time i loved came to love its clean look i really did. But after driving in that 2005 Mazda RX-8 with the two tone red/black interior I became BORED with the Black/Ebony. soooooooo I knew it was time for a change. I was worried that the thrill of driving my cobalt was going down hill because of interior boredom hahahaha i know what ur all think. just hit the gas pedal and the thrill will come back but i needed a change.
Oh and I LOVE THE HIGH RISE..........LOL so does Christian. Ill neveer get rid of it. Its like the Subaru STI, it just dosent look the same without it IMHO!!

Too much rice stuff going on with the highrise for me... not my personal taste... If I had my way I would have a deck spoiler like on the old Camaros and such. Just a few inches to look cool cuz lets be honest, these spoilers don't do ****... We aren't driving around the brickyard at 200mph swapping paint with dale Jr., or Jeff Gordon.
haha welcome to NY ( The bend me over state) where the working class are heavily taxed and support all the street walking welfare, and receive nothing but grief back from our state Gov., This is why we smile so much lol.
ya nut i dont want my cobalt ss turbo to look anymore than it has too like an LT Cobalt! i mean isnt that what everone complains about with the cobalts, that they look to much like a cobalt base.......so then these same people take the high rise off?????
looks great. and a good story. you dont meet many ppl like that. im looking for the same interior actually so im jealous lol you should paint the silver trim black or red though. just my opinion. but congrats
I like that it looks like a cobalt base with the low pro wing... It makes the camaros and mustangs and vettes I murder all the more confused. They must be thinking "Is that a base Cobalt spinning the tires next to me at 50mph and still pulling a car length on me? When exactly did I enter the Twilight Zone?"
ok thats true well you know what else you could do then...paint ur silver trim pieces on the door black. and the actual dash trim parts you should swap them out with the carbon fiber ones from the g5 they will fit i think my friend just has to drill a hole on the side by the steering wheel for the 2 buttons and it looks great. just another option but im still jealous lol click on my sig and check out my interior see what u think
Hey heath that looks pretty nice... So I take it that your transformation came after you hit a cow? Thats a big nasty poo on the side of your car... Or did an angry ex girlfriend sit on the front 1/4 and drop a deuce. I really like how that Pontiac grille looks in the TC front end
haha i dont hate the rpd but wouldnt pay extra money to get it its not THAT cool lol and my car doesnt look like an lt it still looks like a ss even without the HIGHRISE wing lol
Ugh that sucks. Well at least they didn't total it and gave you all nice shinny new body pieces. I want your grille now that would be kinda sweet well without the pontiac symbol that is.
