New record!! 18 degrees outside and 7 psi
At this rate I might be boostless at -5!! And yes...I need a tune :)

I was driving yesterday and was trying to watch my boost guage when shifting, seems I am still around 15 and my temp was way below freezing yesterday with a wind chill of like COLD lol but your still making 260/260 so its all good right? lol

well he said he does not have a tune so I believe the learn down feature will still be in effect so then yeah, if I understand correctly. Thats why I put a question mark after because i was kinda asking if that is correct.
|
Yea the computer is programmed to run less or more boost to make that 260 hp 260 tq no matter what.
|
thats what I thought, thanks for clearing it up
|
lol i was running approx 8psi the other night, it's in KPa and I was busy keepin the car on the icy roads but i glanced up once to look at it was about 60-80Kpa at best, maybe lower lol
|
Talk about a buzzkill
|
I only go to about 60 kpa which is 8 PSI and it was -19 this morning.

So you're saying that because of the temperature, he is running less boost but the same amount of HP right?
obviously..... ohh and nice GLI i have one to but im selling it to get an ss/tc :thumb:. if only GM didnt have the learn down function youd be boosting at 15 and be so much faster. I guess that kinda is a good thing though considering that there would be more "snow took another victim" threads. |
id be taking it easy on your car when its frigid... I try to stay out of boost entirely....i mangled a syncro on a brisk shift in my WRX with an ambient temp of -1 degrees. make extra careful shifts, and watch out for axle hop, everything is more brittle in the cold.

I saw 12 psi last week. At first I thought I read it wrong but it was by far the coldest temps of the winter so far. It was 1F outside.
|
Not to one up someone but it was -10 last week and I saw only 9 psi and yesterday as I was leaving my second job I floored it and bearly touched 5 psi. I was thinking the same thing. "Am I really getting 260hp off of 5 psi??"

Cold air is denser so more air fits in the same volume. Its the ideal gas law. Pi Vi / Ti = Pf Vf / Tf Pi = Initial absolute pressure (kPa), 230kPa ~ 33 psi Vi = Initial volume (L), this doesn't change and is fixed ignore it Ti = Initial temperature (K), 300K ~ 80F Pf = Final absolute pressure (kPa) Vf = Final volume, same as Vi Tf = Final temperature (K), 250K ~ -10F Pf = (Pi x Tf) / Ti = (230 x 250) / 300 ~ 192 kPa ~ 27.8 psia - 14.7 psi ~ 13.1 psig I estimated and rounded the numbers but it should be close. Also you don't get full boost until the engine is warmed up. |

That says a lot for how efficient the LNF is,:twothumbs but just imagine how much power you will make at that temperature when you are tuned at 22 psi.

I dont see why ur having trouble with you boost at colder temps... Its been -40 degree celcius and i still hit 110kpa right around that 15psi
