Official Best CP thread

Hey Guys I found my Boost leak coming from where the hard plastic and the soft rubber coupler that goes to the intercooler meet.. sprayed soapy water and it bubbled like Ol Faithful lol.. but I tried searching for 30 minutes trying to find out THE best upper charge pipe. I absolutely HATE Hahn products as my CAI is GARBAGE. I have a K&N SRI sitting in the box and a MPxx Catted DP. I need to order this asap so I can get my daily dose of 24psi right away according to the doctor
soooo I need some input from you guys! Oh and btw I have the stock intercooler and plan on keeping the stock cold side CP. Thanks!

Zzp! You will either have to order their silicone couplers or cut up your stock ones iirc. Dejon and injen are popular also.

Ahh from what I was reading from searching the threads, I thought you had to cut your stock couplers for the ZZP.. I am going to check out their site now. If I can order couplers from them and it all fits, then it's prob going down.

I like the Injen well, but it needs better couplers & clamps than it came with. Most direct route and anchors to the engine.

There's nothing wrong with the Hahn intake unless you didn't tune for it. I'm happy with mine.

I want to throw this question out there:

Is a small amount of air leakage (like you describe) at all the charge pipe junctions *normal*? This really seems miniscule. How much boost are you really losing here? I wonder if you're gonna see that no matter what pipe/coupler you use.

for the most part, I will only hold 10 lbs of boost ever since I felt the car die down driving on the highway. I should be holding about 23-24
Oh and wangspeed, I was tuned for my Hahn when I had it on my car. I just do not like the design of their intake and chargepipes. I just want something that is solid and what most people agree on here that is the best upper charge pipe.

Yeah that's significant.

A boost leak is also a vacuum leak. The issue comes more from the vacuum leak than the boost leak when it's that small.

Doesn't MPx sell an coupler upgrade kit with their Injen CP's well it's an extry $40, but from what I understand it's a great fix.

Can someone comment on that?

Well, it's your money, but the design of the Hahn intake is quite good. The only problem i had with it was that the filter would get wet in heavy rain, and cause some issues during the next cold start. I fixed it by adding a K&N drycharger cover.

I agree that Hahn's charge pipes aren't a good idea since the hot pipe is not bolted to the engine. So far I like ZZP's hot pipe the most. Can't say I like any aftermarket cold pipes. They're almost all made of aluminum, a very good thermal conductor.

I bought couplers and T-bolt clamps from siliconintakes.com. 2) 2.5" & 1) 2.25" iirc. I forget the price but I'm sure it was way under $40.

Well I made my decision this morning and bought the ZZP hot side and the silicone couplers. I would assume it is a fairly easy install. I have my bumper off right now and it was a real pain to get off. Did any of you guys need to take it off to install the hot side? I don't want to put it on before it gets dark just to take it off in 2 days to install it. Oh and wang the problem I had with the intake is the ghetto support bolt that goes into the fender well broke twice on me.. apparently it isnt a solid bolt all the way through. the middle is just rubber and snaps like a tooth pick.

That bushing is intentionally made like that. It's to help reduce vibration to the intake, which is good for consistent MAF readings. If your bushing is highly misaligned, it means that your intake needs adjustment.

Any leak that leaks boost can also leak vaccuum. Because the air being sucked in through the hole that is also leaking boost, and it's post-MAF, you get unmetered air into the system. This can cause rough idle, O2 sensor codes, and other assorted crap.

Just thought I would let your guys know about the Dejon pipes. I had them on my cobalt and ended up taking them off. If you are not using t-bolts they can and will pop off it actually put a small dent in my hood. I ended up using zip ties to keep them in place they moved a ton under boost. I would highly recommend staying away from them. They are good quality but the fitment leaves a lot to be desired. I really like the Injen pipe. It has an atachment point on the engine to prevent it from moving to much and looks great.

The Injen CP's are awesome, they fit very well and the mount to hold them snug is awesome. Only problem is the couplers are too short and it comes with worm drive clamps. What you do is got to Intercooler Pipe Fabrication - Silicone Intake Systems Auto Parts spend $15 get longer silicone couplers and T-Bolt Clamps and you have the best upper charge pipes you can get IMO.

I didn't know you had an aftermarket Tune, I thought you were only GMS1.

The crappy Modern Performance catted downpipe threw a code. I decided to get the tuner since I've tuned other cars. It's a good way for me to log anyways.

The ZZP upper and lower cp's are the best IMO

You having the bumper off is going to make the install very very easy

Good luck!
