P2178??

This is my 10th time my car has turned up this code. Me and my mechanic are at a stand still and not sure what to do. I am sick of my car already -_- We've replaced the MAF sensor, O2 sensor, and all air filters and I even started using 94 Fuel because GM said that the cobalts generate a "fake" code which is the P2178 and that means the car is running too rich. Does anyone have any history with this bastard and know the answer?

You either have a boost leak, or untuned intake. Put the stock intake back on, or fix your tune if you have one, and hunt for leaks.

^this, check for leaks, or look at the tune. If you don't have a tune, go get one!

If it's that far off, there is likely a leak in addition to any untuned intake issues.

I'm guessing you never removed the intercooler condensation tank. If you haven't, then your IC is probably cracked and leaking. Check the passenger's side fiberglass/plastic end tank.

And be sure to remove the bumper cover to do it. Look for a crack right around in here:

100K for drivetrain issues. This is likely not a drivetrain-part issue.

If it was this bolt, they just took mine out. There was a TSB for it.

yes on taking the bolt out or shaving, but that shouldn't fix the CEL.

Call GM Customer Service. They'll send someone out. He'll probably throw an ECM at it.

An STi won't give you any less trouble than any other turbo car. To own a turbo car, you have to be able to do some basic maintenance.

Although, if I could afford an STi, that means I could afford a 3-series beemer, which I would then buy and wave goodbye to the 'balt.

Have fun with the EJ25. It's an engine of fail. I'll never go back.

Not to mention that it sounds like a busted lawnmower.

mines throwing the same code "SYstem too rich at idle bank 1"? im going through getting them to fix this, they replaced engine and still throwing code, i think i may have leak in intake side considering i can hear a vacuum sound when i drive normally without boost, my AFRs have also been rediculous lately and very inconsistent, not normal type of inconsistent. around 3k rpm my car kind of bucks and jerks, let me know if you get anything fixed man, ill do the same for you.
Goodluck bro, im starting to feel the same about my cobalt, i cant wait to trade the thing in, honestly dont know if ill ever go to Chevy again :/

So i just got a call back from dealership, and they are almost 100% sure they found the culprit, they are replacing my intercooler, and i should be getting it back tomorrow, i also had bad AFR inconsistency along with this code, so if your also having this problem that could be where to check, keep an eye on your gas guage... i filled up on a wednesday amd by friday my car had half a tank dropping it off at the dealership, so just keep an eye out for anything getting fishy, or worse if youve already noticed it.... If you drive around and hear almost a vacuum suction this could be a good place to start, i noticed this and informed the technician working on my car, they contacted the technical line for GH, took a couple days and thats what they have come to
If youve made it this far in my lifes story with my car, ill keep you posted on performance when i get my car back from dealership

Your car runs rich when there is a boost leak because of all the unmetered air being sucked in, which makes your gas mileage go to pewp.
