Paint valve cover??

Hey all so here is my plan, I wanted to buy a valve cover from modernperformance strip it down and paint it myself, kinda like a little project on the side for me. Just couple questions. I wanted to paint it crystal red metallic, now how would I start.. would sandblasting work? Would regular crmt paint can from gm work? What type of heat treatment can I do to the paint? Primer/clear coat etc etc..I seen one car with this and I love it. Looks great just wanted to know how to go about doing so. Thanks guys!!

Lmao I searched using 3 different tites and didn't find a dam thing.. I found a couple but the one looked like it came out like **** and the other wasn't a actual how-to. The guy who did his valve cover how I want mine posted pictures up in the crmt thread, I'm on my phone now though so I can't post the picture up now or I would.

1st step is decrease it. Sand blasting is good if you have access if not a scotch brite grey from a auto or paint store with work with some ajax and water to further clean it. Then degrease it again and dry with a lint free towel. From here get a tact cloth to pick up dust and dirt that can land on it and wipe it down. Use a self etch primer since it isn't plastic. Then go over it with a normal gray or white prumer depending on how you want the color to.pop gray will make the red darker and white will make it brighter. Best bet is go to a paint store and have it mixed and if you don't have access to a gun and compressor they have cans with compressed air they can load the paint in for you. Use 3 to 4 coats of base and finish it with any duplicolor engine or wheel clearcoat since they can take higher temp. Also regular spray gun clear is the best if you has access. I have done my LS6 intake on my TA in vette torch red and the metal intake on my old 93 5.0 using these same methods and haven't had any issues and my take engine compartment gets very hot from the headers and cam so I know it can take the heat. Hope that helped pm with any question always happy to help a do it.yourself kinda person.

Haha I was totally going to do this to mine sometime next year... but $80 for a powdercoated unit?! Wow... thanks for making me lazy yet again, Modern.

For that price I couldn't be bothered to do my own.

That makes no sense.

Oh HEAT. not hear.

Let us know how that fitting comes off with the proper removal tool. Thats what has been holding me off from getting mine done always hearing what a pain they are to remove!

I plan on getting the werks coil cover plate and painting it victory red to match the UICP to help break up the black on one side and red the other.
