Painting My Steering Wheel
Painting My Steering Wheel
hey everyone!
So im working on my interior of my 2008 Cobalt SS Turbo. Im doing a red/Ebony theme cause it goes with my seats and im having a problem!
You see I want my steering wheel to be red and black like the Mazda RX-8 and i aware that the Saturn Sky Redline has a black and red steering wheel that is the exact same as the Cobalt SS steering wheel BUT.........to all out buy the steering wheel is WAY TOO MUCH!!
ive been trying to find an upholstery shop that will put red on the wheel but nobody i find can do it sooooooooo........I want to just paint the steering wheel! i saw a thread on the forum chevy cobalt.com about a guy who painted his wheel and said that it would rub off but there wasnt much information abut how to do it on the thread.
SOOOOOO whati want to know is.........is there anyone on this forum who has painted their Cobalt SS steering wheel? if you show some pics and give me your best advice and how to do it!
Thanks Ya'll

Don't do it. I have never seen a paint that can hold up to what a steering wheel goes through without peeling and looking like crap. That, and you don't paint leather either..... Stick with getting an upholstery shop to make a new cover for the wheel if buying one is too much.
But you are just trying to convince yourself it will
You will be much happier buying a proper wheel paint will look terrible
theres enough posts on here that you should be able to research what fits. Helping you out is one thing flat out doing all the ground work for you is another.
Paint wont hold up look into what cars the steering wheel can be swapped from then find a place that sells salvage pieces and such (etc. LKQ)

paint definately WONT HOLD UP. ill be honest one thing i see is cobalt owners need to quit being cheap asses. not saying you are op BUT the vast majority would say **** it and paint it anyways.... it will rub off more then likely within a year.
your best bets are to try lkq ebay a junkyard or see if any of the kappa guys on the kappa forums are parting their car out.

There is a reason why a straight bolt on steering wheel costs alot more... Its the right way to do it. Do it the right way the first time and never worry about it again. You have lots more to worry about Hydro, like that RPD install that will probably be a pain, unless you have already done it.
There is a company that makes covers that YOU sew on, I have no idea what the final product looks like on our wheels, but its something you may want to look into, I can find the link later.
here it is, its called wheelskins. ^obviously it will never look like the real deal, but its an option
also it looks from the pull down menu that they dont have cobalt listed, Check malibu/solstice or sky, if not you may be able to be the lucky tester and get a discount.
