Painting Stock Intercooler

OK, so I know I saw a few people who removed the lower grille on their tc's and had stuff painted (?) on the intercooler...someone had an SS on it and it looked really sweet. Just wondering if anybody could explain how that was done.

more then likely someone made a cardboard templete and spray painted it. in all honesty i would keep the grill in. my friend has had his out with his werks intercooler and i have left my grill in....he has 100x's more crap on it then do.

well if I can find a way to paint it in the right color I may put the grill back on, but it looks pretty nice without it, and yes, it gets dirty pretty easy just like you said...just something extra to clean when I wash it now.

choose your favorite color rattle can, make a templete using cardboard. take out the grill, hold your templete where you want it. tape it in. put some paper around the bumper to prevent over spray, spray the ss, let it dry remove tape, install grill if you choose, admire your handy work

yeah, I'm just worried it will like seep into the intercooler. lol. but I'm sure it will be fine. I'll be doing this by the end of the week and then I'll post some pictures. made myself an SS stencil that looks just like the SS on the side of the car, but it was too big, so I now have to scale it down then go for it.

thanks, it only took maybe 45 minutes to an hour including the time to make the stencil and everything.

OP,

no one has really done this that i know of, if you had the capabilities you could have massed produced a cheap ass stencil at a sign shop and sold them for 10 bucks each on here to make profit.

Damn. should have thought about that.

Now it's another cheap mod though, unless you already have a printer, some posterboard and a can of spray paint. if not it might cost you $15. including gas. hahaha. (well not if you don't have a computer printer)

I think I'd make the stencil out of masking tape to better define the letters. Make the edges a little finer. Not so blurry. Just an idea.

That was what I wanted to do, but that was just too hard to make a perfect stencil with only tape, but now that I have it on there I'm going to touch it up by putting tape around it this weekend.

what I was gunna do is pretty much combined everyones idea up there. Make a stencil outa poster board...cover my intercooler with painters tape...trace the stencil on the tape...cut letters out and paint. Too easy. Like someone stated above...you'll get more defined letters that way

thought about this too, didn't want to be taking a knife or anything to my intercooler though. can you say bye-bye fins?

I don't see why IAT's would change. Most of what you see with the paint is on the solid metal, the fins really only have paint on what kind of "sticks out" from the intercooler and the paint isnt clogged in between the fins either, so I really don't think anything should happen.

I don't think it would affect IATs much if at all. I wanted to put this on mine. I think it would look sweeeeet.

well in that case idk what I would pick. lol. not cobalt, because who cares if my car is a cobalt. lol, that's why I put SS, and idk what kretty is besides your username...but it wouldn't be hard to do either, just more cutting and tracing.

NJ has a front plate law too. **** it. Haha. I got those little push tabs from Advanced Auto and put them in. They look much better than the holes and aren't really too much of an eyesore at all.
